Default Changes to the manual transmission 2016-2019?

I found my old short shifter that I'd not realized I uninstalled from my 2016 when Jag got me my 2019, and was going to install it.

I think everything is the same? BUT... the threaded shifter from 2016 seems to have gone to a press and fit style of attachment mechanism, and lo and behold...
I won't be able to get the knob back on.

I'm only asking because I want to make sure that nothing else changed, and installing it means I simply need a new "old" knob for the shifter? But of course everything else will be fine.
Any recs on a new knobby are welcome. =)

And yes it's time for an interior detail I KNOW I KNOW.

I think that's all correct. The 2016 did not have a threaded knob. As I recall, the piece in the shift boot goes onto the piece in your left hand, than the knob goes on top of it all.

EDIT: Do you have the instruction sheet that came with the U-shifter?

I do indeed. But now I actually have to measure the throw because along with the new slip-on, it was suggested that maybe the throw is shorter already. I'm about to measure yay

Measure the distance from 3rd to 4th. I'll do the same on my car, whose shifter was one of the first to be Unhinged.

EDIT: roughly 3 3/4" longitudinal movement from 3rd to 4th. I also measured roughly 1 1/2" between the front of the know and the rear of the emergency flasher switch, or about 2 1/2" to the base of the red triangle.

Well this is pretty exciting. I'm probably the first confirmation on this little lost detail.

The 2019 manual transmission shifted from a threaded gear knob to a simpler push configuration.

It seems absolutely nothing in the transmission chain has changed other than the gear knot.

There was some speculation with that change, that they may have shortened the throw from the 4 in in the 2016 down to 3 in in the 2019.

I'm happy to confirm the short shifter is still an excellent addition in all F-Type manual transmissions, because the 2019 throw is still 4 inches from 3rd gear to 4th gear!!

Now I'm going to drive around with a potato is my knob for a bit. Lol, that's for my off-roading days. I think I'll use a tennis ball. It's not immediately clear where I will find my replacement so if anyone has fun ideas I'm all ears of a new knob for this knob!

Thanks Lizzardo, and always Unhingd!!

One of us is confused and I'm pretty sure it's you.

The shift knob you're showing is just like that from my 2016, and matches the 2017 version that Valerie has. I know of none that have a threaded knob and if memory serves, I checked that before sending my spare to Valerie that there is only one type.

Always glad to help. In this particular case, have you removed the panel with the shifter boot to look at what's underneath? That should prove illuminating.

Here's a post from the original short-shifter project thread that includes some measurements I made, probably more accurately than what I did this morning. You can tell by the fact that I chose metric units

Also, I was trying to provide something accurate enough to use for him to use as he was making engineering decisions, hence measurements on both cars so he could calibrate against his own measurements.

I'm always confused. But i am so, SO out of my depth here, so take any of this with a grain: Threaded is totally wrong. Sorry. Brain gear went wrong. I think it's long "barrel bayonet" or "keyed", but that's where I am wandering lost in a forest. LOL

But essentially... the 2019 shifter stock is different than the short shifter, but you're saying that the knob on the lower part of that picture will seat on the short shifter?
You just shove it on there? I mean, the stalks are definitely different...

I was gonna use a potato for real and for fun. LOL

Which instructions do you have? In your picture, the piece in your left hand is only visible once you remove the shift boot and the upper part of the shaft (the piece sticking up through the shifter boot).

It's the lower shaft that is a bit of a pain to install. I changed it by myself in the driveway, with the car on stands. A lift would help (more height). An extra set of hands would help for the one tricky bolt, which is reportedly not tricky if you drop the exhaust. Am I cheap to have insisted on doing it myself? Maybe stubborn? Honestly, mostly the latter. I can still say that all modifications were done by me (excluding the torsen; tip o' the hat to @Onca Engineering for that), although I still use the dealer for maintenance. That's probably due to also being lazy.

Stubborn, lazy, and semi-cheap, but I also have a sense of humor. The potato knob would be amusing. I'm a DEVO fan so a Spud Shifter appeals to me, although I expect cleanup might be a problem.

Hey guys!
Thanks for the plug on the Quaife ATB. @lizzardo I hope you are well.
The above pictures look like my shift knob and shifter rod from my 2017 V6 MT.
Just ping @Onca Engineering if you would like me to take measurements from my car.
Drive well,
Herman
