Default Check Engine light

My check engine light came with code P0042 I only have 63,000 miles on my 2014 F Type
the mechanic is saying that I need to take it to the dealer to get the software update to remove the code. Any suggestions? I don’t want to break the bank to clear this code bc the car is driving perfect but it failed inspection bc of the check engine light .

There's probably a secondary code confirming that the O2 sensor is faulty. It's an easy and inexpensive fix that involves replacing the sensor. Since you're in America, the Jag dealer will replace it for free as Jag was forced to offer lifetime warranty on O2 sensors. Book the car in and they will sort it for you.

Not lifetime. 15 years for the V6, 10 years for the V8.

@Marli G No worries if you have a V6, a one hour free fix at the JLR dealer near you while you have a complimentary coffee and bottle of water. If you have a V8 they may try and charge you for the repair since it is past the 10 year mark, but you could try and ask for them to cover it based on the in-service date.

If it's a V8 registered in a CARB state, then the O2 extended warranty would still be valid as those got the 15 year warranty too.
