Default Cloudy lens

The back up camera lens is very cloudy. Has anyone else here had this issue? If so, were you able to 'uncloud' it?

I do not have the issue, but here is a suggestion. The cloudiness may be caused by moisture getting inside the lens. Try drying it with a hairdryer.

For a 2014, if you park a lot outside it could be cloudy from cumulative UV exposure, similar to how some headlights yellow/cloud over time. They sell headlight polishing kits and although it might be tough to do for such a small surface area, if moisture isn't the problem it would be the next thing I would consider.

It has been cloudy from the day I bought it earlier this year. Just getting a bit annoyed and want to see what I can do to get a clearer picture. I will replace it if I can't clear it up somehow.

I have never had that problem and my cat sleeps outside. The first thing I'd recommend is a visual inspection to see if the outside of the lens is clear and shiny. If not I'd try some plastic polish. If it's clear and shiny, the problem is inside and replacement might be in order.

Default Novus Plastic polish may help

I use Novus products on a wide range of automotive and household plastics. Here's a set that I find useful:

Amazon Amazon

I use it on my E type for the rocker switches, on the F for the console area around the start button. I'm still working with my dealer who should have replaced my headlights when I asked, and I have used the Novus to remove surface issues. It won't however, remove the interior cracking that has occurred. It works well on vintage convertible plastic rear windows that have clouded up.
In the house I use it on the microwave plastic control panel.

Lmk if you work out a solution. My rear camera in my 2017 SVR coupe is quite fuzzy and I suspect the lens is clouded. No moisture issue - perhaps a residue on it. Or plastic deteriorating. Has been like that for several years

If easy to replace the camera itself I might consider that.

There is a YouTube video of a guy replacing his on a 2017. Doesn't seem all that difficult.

The backup cameras in these cars aren't great, but it should be pretty obvious from a visual inspection if the lens is cloudy or damaged. Wipe it with a soft cloth and look at it closely. The surface of the lens should be shiny and you should be able to see the sensor clearly through it.

The one in my MY18 is very good - maybe the newer ones are compatible with the early models?

Mine (2016) is adequate, but not up to the very good level. It is the first car I've had with a backup camera, but my mother's 2017 Kia is better. The later Land Rovers I get as loaners when my car is being serviced are better too. It might be a matter of year. I haven't poked around in the parts catalog for different years of camera.

From what I can find online, the later versions use different connections than the earlier ones. Dual connectors versus single.

Many newer cars have 'high-def' backup cameras. Yes they are clearer than our '14s, but how good do you need for them to perform their intended function?

The camera may have improved with the bigger screen, or maybe it's just that the screen is better. As I said, I find mine to be adequate, but if the sun is shining on it or the lens is dirty or wet, it gets useless pretty quickly.
