Default Clunk Noise Between Top and Windshield Frame

On the passenger side only, there is a clunking noise in the area of the latch between the top and the windshield frame. This happens mostly when turning right over a driveway entrance or over some undulations in the road. Is worse with windows down. The dealer says there is no adjustment and is a function of the twisting/flexing of the chassis. Anyone else experiencing this? I will contact Jaguar.

I've never detected any chassis flex in the convertible, but there may be a small amount. Check the weather stripping in that area to ensure it is not loose or dislocated.

Not sure if your problem is the same as I experienced but have your dealer check the shims in that area.

I turned a corner several months ago and heard what sounded like shattered glass and a loud clunk on the passenger side. Immediately after I could hear pieces rolling around like loose change where the top meets the windshield. The top still opened and closed fine. It turned out there was a stack of quarter-sized shims used to align the top which came loose. No damage was done and the dealer repositioned them. The only problem is that after the service visit, one shim fell out again onto the passenger seat when I opened the top. I went back and I believe the dealer taped or glued them together. No problems since.

Thanks for the comments. If there is no manual adjustment to the top mechanism as the tech rep at the dealership stated, it makes sense that they may have shimmed between the top and the windshield. If so, the British engineering has again attacked the US.

The dealer stated there is no adjustment between the top and the windshield. He stated that the car is flexing which is causing the problem. I reminded him that it is only on the passenger side and is more prominent with the window down. He couldn't duplicate the problem which occurred as I left the dealership's driveway; I gave up and went home. I contacted Jaguar Customer Service and got a big ZERO. They will contact the dealership and work with me to solve the problem............. The saga will continue when I get a chance to take the car back.

It's time to find a new service department.

I routinely enter and exit steep sloping grade driveways without any sound or detectable flex whatsoever. I've owned a couple of dozen convertibles over the years, and I know what chassis flex feels like. I don't feel any in this car.

Beemer, does it make the sound whether top is up or down. Door open and door closed. I had an irritating sound that you can find more about in the middle of this post: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...-cover-148948/ Towards the end of the thread, I also posted what the dealer did to fix it. Probably not the same as yours, but I thought I'd mention in case it is.

Since Jaguar of Fort Myers said they couldn't duplicate (the excuse of all service departments) and have been unprofessional about this and other items, I will take it for this and all services in the future to a different dealer. Since it isn't a safety but a nuisance thing, I'll just wait until either a warranty issue or the next service in Nov. 2016.
