Default Considering Pre-Owned F-Type

I've found what I think is a gorgeous F-type in Italian Racing Red with the Black Pack and some other goodies. 6k miles 2014 model year with warranty and only 1 previous owner. The car looks awesome.

I'm a previous Lotus Elise owner, which I miss dearly. I was considering an Evora S but I've always had a fondness for these f-types. Any pro's or cons to these cars? I really don't know a lot about them, and I've never owned a Jag before. Any advice from current owners would be welcome.

Car is listed at 74k, but I was thinking of offering 68-69k.

Thanks in advance

Madison

Here is what's on everyone's s***list: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...f-type-138199/ , but I'm guessing just about everyone chiming in still loves their car.
You need to let us know what model (base, S, V8S) so we can give guidance on the price.

WELCOME to the forum!

I just bought a 1 year old IRR F-Type V6S convertible.

Awesome car, love it, you won't be sorry.

From another former Lotus Elise owner, who also misses mine, you most likely will love the F-Type. I can't speak about the coupe because I never considered it, but the convertible provides some of the same thrills as the Elise. Even the base V6 has a hell of lot more power.

I'd never owned a Jaguar either, but there's no real downside. Mine has been flawless. I only wish it weighed a bit less, which a former Lotus owner will understand very well.

Thanks for the replies! I'll check out what I don't like about f-type. Here is a link the to car I'm interested in:

It's a V6S.

2014 JAGUAR F-TYPE S CONVERTIBLE SARASOTA FL | Vehicle Details | Encore Motorcars of Sarasota, INC

Hopefully no one will snag it up too soon. I'm also considering this but it's on the edge of what I can afford and the dealer would have to drop price a lot, but Lotus didn't push a 2015 model and is waiting on the new 2016's so the Evora's are starting to get deep discounts:

That's a beautiful car with some expensive options like the performance seats. I think $68-69K would be a good offer. I think you'd enjoy the F-Type much more than the Evora having come from an Elise. And the sound, oh the sound is just so perfect!

The minor gripes you will hear about the F-Type will pale in comparison to the idiosyncracies that come in a Lotus, and it will likely be more reliable too.

I bought certified 1 year old with 4k from dealer last Sept. Orig. $94.7 bought for flat $71k. Great deal and very happy, even trade was ok. Don't know if cert was really necessary but they had already done it. 3 years warranty was probably enough for me, I'm already trying not to think about R AWD roadster!

These 2 are both V6S, both certified, 100K warranty. I guess it depends on how much you care about the options.

If all that carbon fiber is dealer installed and not a wrap that was several thousand dollars extra, maybe more. Appears car does not have meridian 770w upgrade or lighting package. If it doesn't have homelink than doesn't have premium package. Can't tell about expanded leather. All these thing affect value. There is a service for dealers that will print out original equipment. , then you can price right. Looks like the white V8 they have is the better buy ,sticker plus carbon could have been $107k! Starting at $79k!

The first IRR convertible cold almost be the twin of mine. If it was right hand drive I would say they had stolen it. It gets tons of comments and gawkers. It also always looks much better in real life than it does in pictures.

I must say the British Racing Green on the Evora looks much better than the same color on the JAG. If the JAG had been that shade of BRG I would have selected it instead of IRR.

You would like the metallic racing green on my old 06 Elise then:

That Evora has the same color. But that IRR is so awesome looking.

Yes, I do like that color. I prefer BRG to be more green than black. The JAG BRG appears too dark in most light except bright sun and even then does not pop like this color. BRG and tan leather seats would be my choice.

A brand new 2015 version of what you are looking at can be had for just under $76k through the Consumer Reports new car buying service, so the $74k is definitely out of line. Brand new 2014's V6Ss are starting at $70k on cars.com. Used V6Ss with 2k-10k miles are in the $65-68k range on cars.com

Try 67K and settle at 68K. Very nice looking car. It is located just south of me. Why are you looking in Florida rather than locally? I know the cars here have no winter related wear and tear.

Here is a 15 model (not an S), with an asking just under 70K. I think this car could be bought for 65-66K:

I just did a search on Autotrader. I'll look more and any referrals are very helpful.

Thanks

If I decided to make an offer, how far away is this car from where you live? If it was relatively close, would you be willing to go see the car and give me a good report on it?

The best I could do is go to the Jaguar dealer about 30 minutes from me and go sit in a 2015 Type-F, maybe take a drive and see for myself but I wouldn't be going down to Sarasota to look first.

I'm always curious about maintenance history, recalls, and if the car is super clean and without any cosmetic dings and chips and such.

It is about 45 miles south of where we live. I'd love to go see it and could take pictures of any flaws for you. Do you want me to drive it?

Madisonart,
Where in MI are you? I'm a native of South Haven, and will have my car there in July, not that that helps you now. Did a track day at Gingerman last year, which was great fun.

That's a very generous offer, Apollo--pure class!
