Default Coolant leak light, car shut down

Guy to whom I sold my 16’ base F type texted me that he brought the car in to Jaguar for a coolant leak today, it was sealed. He was driving this eve and the coolant light came on and the car shut down. I assume (and hope for his sake) that the car will shut down to protect the engine / head gasket if overheating occurs. My first thought was water pump failure? I hope the Jag dealer didn’t forget to fill the damn thing back up with coolant! Thoughts?

just fixed a coolant leak on my 16 v6s, managed to catch the leak before it became a real problem. what happens with our cars is that there are some outdated pipes that wear down with time and leak slowly and eventually you run out of coolant and you can cause damage to your valves. hopefully his engine is ok but if he experiences problems after its fixed i wouldn't be surprised. here is my thread to my problem. if he still has the car with him tell him to shine a flashlight down the back of the engine bay to look ontop of the block for coolant sitting ontop of there. that's how i found out my problem.

To best of my knowledge there is no thermal shutdown safety feature, if car **** down it is likely engine ceased.

Two main cooling system failure points on the AJ133 and AJ126 are the outlet pipe to the radiator and the heater pipe at the rear of the engine between the cylinder heads. Both have been revised, except for the outlet pipe for the normally aspirated AJ133, to eliminate the joint seams, however, both pipes can only withstand a finite number of cold to hot to cold cycles before failing.

Will Jaguar replace these two pipes before they fail ?
How big a job is it to replace these if Jaguar won't do it under warranty ?

Seriously, on a car with all those bells and whistles, vents that come up out of the dash, etc. and no cut off to protect the engine? That seems silly.

A couple of Freudian slips there? Or auto-correct gone wrong?
I guess "**** down" was meant to be "shut down" and "engine ceased' was meant to be "engine seized", but the original wording is perfectly apt!

Unless there's a reason to replace them, JLR dealerships are probably not going to replace them under the basic vehicle warranty.

If the vehicle has the AJ133 supercharged unit, the supercharger must be removed to replace both the outlet pipe and heater pipe. Vehicles fitted with the AJ126 can have the heater pipe replaced without removing the supercharger assembly. Both operations are labour intensive with somewhere between ten hours for the AJ133s and eight hours for the AJ126.
