Default Coolant low issue again? Less than a year since y pipe replacement

Hey everyone, I’m dealing with a couple of issues on my 2015 Jaguar F-Type (88k km). First, I discovered the negative battery terminal was loose—Jaguar had checked the battery but apparently didn’t secure that connector. It caused intermittent power flickering while driving. After tightening the connection, the flickering stopped, although I still plan to replace the battery soon. Now for the new issue: my coolant level is suddenly low. Jaguar replaced a coolant pipe back in September 2024 (I had a noticeable leak at the time). Currently, the coolant reservoir is showing about 1/4 to 1/2 full, and I’m getting a low coolant warning—but I can’t see any obvious leaks. I’m going to top it off with the recommended coolant and monitor the level. Any thoughts on what might be causing the coolant to drop again? Could it be normal consumption, a slow leak, or something else? I’d appreciate any suggestions or tips on diagnosing this before I take it back to the shop. Thanks!

“A coolant pipe was replaced”? There are 3 main, leak-prone plastic coolant pipes on your car. All of them should be replaced now, preferably with the metal pipes available. Almost certainly one or more of these pipes are leaking.
You can get JLR metal pipes for two of the 3, the 2 front pipes. But so far Jaguar has not issued a metal pipe for the rear crossover unit. OR you can get all 3 metal pipes and other bits) from EuroAmp, on line.

My JLR dealer in Victoria replaced mine using the EuroAmp metal pipes. No issues, no complaints. Were you dealing with MCL or Jaguar Vancouver, downtown, or JLR Richmond?.

DO this instead of waiting…you do NOT want a sudden overheating experience! Do it! Overheating risks immediate engine destruction…

Hi @Lavitz , if you don't mind trying out an independent shop I'd highly recommend Silk Cat in North Vancouver (@sov211 recommended them to me last year).

They did the entire cooling system upgrade for me last summer. They were thorough, communicative, and best of all, it was a pretty good deal! Charged quite a bit less than I had been prepared for.

I've also used the local JLR dealers in the past, but with decidedly with mixed results.

If you didn't install the EuroAMP kit with the replacement Water Pump, the WP could be your issue.

Our F had an intermittent loss of coolant, and would occasionally fling a bit of coolant onto the underside of the hood (bonnet).

The water pump was the issue, and I could see the tell-tale streaks of dried coolant on it.

Since replacement, we haven't needed to add ANY coolant (not quite two years). And, our bonnet remains clean!

I STILL check coolant level periodically...

Yep, as said there are any plastic parts of the coolant system that can get brittle and start leaking over time and another common culprit is the water pump, so get it all checked and it shouldn't be hard to find the issue.

Default Replaced, but still plastic

I had warranty replaced flanged plastics replaced by dealer and that job also included a new water pump and I believe a reservoir line (???) Tech explained that the OE water pump would not be able to play nicely with the new coolant pipes/lines.

I have on the shelf, a replacement set of the metal pipes. I also monitor the coolant level assiduously, putting eyes on the level. I believe it also takes 3 clicks to close the reservoir filler. You may want to verify this and make sure yours is closed according to spec.

here are the details for my repair that were done by Jaguar when i had leak on sept 2023:
Gasket and y pipe was replaced with the newer model of it. Taking the car into the shop tomorrow for diganostic. The pipe they put only has 1 year warranty which would just be up.

We have confirmed the thermostat is leaking coolant recommend replacing thermostat $1365.59+tax, and found the engine vacuum pump is actively leaking engine oil, recommend replacing vacuum pump $1559.73+tax. Front brake pads excessive wear, recommend replacing front brake pads and rotors $2482.32+tax. Please let me how you would like to proceed with the repair.

Bruh, what should I do this is costly for sure even if it'd canadian pesos.

What parts are involved for the entire cooling system upgrade? I’m looking to do the same as preventative maintenance.

Hoping you can point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Got a quote from silk cat it's alresdy 50% cheaper. Going to get the full details tomorrow. 50% discount is insane... we just bought mercedes gle 53 amg.. might need to get a local mechanic to maintain that as well tbh.

I just took our 2014 F-Type base model (41k miles) in for the same thing. The repair shop said there was coolant on top of the manifold. The plastic pipes and connectors already mentioned by others was the culprit. The shop foreman also advised replacing the water pump because of an issue with the sub par connector becoming brittle and susceptible to breaking off and falling inside the water pump. This is an 18 hours of labor job. Total estimated cost USD $4,625. But as others have stated. Get this fixed now. You don’t want to wait until it fails, which could result in severe damage or even complete engine failure.

Hey, I’m going there too. Perhaps the shop can work out a deal for both of us if we’re going in same time. PM me.

If you`re going to pay a mechanic to get in there then in my opinion just bite the bullet and get it all done. Or else you`ll be paying him again later to go in and do that stuff.

Shop in my area CT will do that job for around 1200 +/- if youre just doing the pipes. You will want to do other PM work while the SC is off, but 18 hours is ridiculous. You will get those kinds of quotes from dealers, but shouldn't be getting that from indy mechanics.
