Default Corrosion on Wing Torx Screws

I noticed today when opening my trunk that I have corrosion on the bolts holding my wing on (photo attached). I definitely didn't have any when I purchased the car so it has appeared in the last five months. First, this is concerning because it has seen zero salt so this is just from driving in the rain. Secondly, now I'm concerned about the rest of the wing mechanism (and the rest of the car lol). When the wing is up there is an open hole that the rain can enter. Where does this water go and has anyone ended up with a rusted linkage from this?

Geez, I would have to agree, seems a bit bizarre if the car is not seeing salt. At least to me…

This is of no consequence. The rust is where the protective finish on the screws has been abraided - most likely by over-tightening, using the wrong size driver… water + unprotected metal or poorly protected metal = surface corrosion. The chances of this indicating any further corrosion is slight.

Replace them with new and be sure to use some tape or something to avoid removal of finish, or just touch them up with a matching rust paint of some kind. Probably would never even notice it.

Easier: A drop of a light oil.

If, in the future, you see rust again, pack the 'star' of the bolt with grease.

It's only surface rust, as mentioned in post 3.

Yeah I thought it was not an issue but I have a hard time discerning between surface rust and a larger issue. How can you tell? I was also worried this meant there was moisture in the wing mechanism when it folds but it's probably just from rain.

Yes I think Jaguar used poorer quality torx and the shop that did my wrap scrapped the finish off when screwing them back in
