1) Anyone having issue with center caps falling off the rim? I have lost 3 of them now, all on the front axel, 2 of the OEM ones fell off this past winter, 1 aftermarket fell off after a track day. The one remaining on the driver side front rim is a bit wobbly and I wouldn't be surprised if it is gone today. The rears have stayed put no issue, OEM or aftermarket.
2) How do you remove the gauge cluster covering(the leather wrapped hood part on the dash), I found the part on dealer site quoting $7xx, thinking of removing it and have it refinished. Mine looks like **** right now.
The rising air vent also has some rough surface on the leading edge, and the part right in front of the speaker grille seems to be raise a good 2mm.
Everything else on the dash still looks and feels fine.
3) driver door glass seems to be extra wobbly, compared to the passenger side, door shut sound is also noticeably worse (something shaking instead of a clean thud)
video will be attached soon if uploading from device doesn’t work
Are you sure those lost centre caps were OEM? On all of my three Jags OEM centre caps always sat perfectly tight while aftermarket ones could be a bit loose unless you added something to their clips to sit tighter.
Wow, how did that happen with the gauge cluster covering? Too much time in the sun?
Now that you mention it about the driver side door glass I think mine is also a little bit more wobbly than on the passenger side. Will be interesting what others have to say about this.

I’m not the first owner so i can’t be 100% sure they were oem, but the aftermarket ones are definitely different, see attached pic, red was the ones came with the car, black is the aftermarket ones i got off eBay, notice the difference in lettering and the jaguar itself.
i have no idea how the gauge cluster got to that state, first time i noticed it was already a few months after taking her home, On the side where i took the pic, it looks like some kind of chemical damage, but the leather underneath is completely fine?? The center edge where i didn’t take a pic looks more like a typical leather lifting and shrinking, and the center of this leather is also lifted.
The door has been bugging me since the beginning, not sure if something is broken or loose, or previous owner always closed it with a slam on the glass??

Yep, the black ones are definitely cheap after market jobs, I have bought several sets in different colours over the years and they are always very loose fitting.
The "fix" as MajorTom says is to wrap some insulation tape around the tangs on the back, this way they will fit a lot tighter but still not as good as the OEM ones.
Also the cheapies have the wrong/old growler face and Jaguar font, and they fade if left in the sun.
Trouble is the OEM ones are hideously expensive and hard to find.
I ran with blue after-market ones on the F-Type for a few years but I got sick of the loose fit and the wrong face and font so I refitted my OEM red ones a couple of months ago and the improvement in quality and fit is yuge.

yep OEM ones are hideously expensive for what they are, so I actually bought 2 sets off eBay, not knowing how chubby the jaguar looks 🤣
I have wrapped the extra set with dark smoke tint and quite like the look, will share how it looks on the car once I have the chance, right now the remaining front is so loose I can pick it off with my finger, and the rear so tight I can't get it off without removing the rim.
Will definitely add some tape to the prongs to prevent future lossage.
And the glass in the doors is loose because the previous owner and guests closed the doors as if they were solid frame sedan doors. Clearly they closed the doors by putting pressure on the glass...definitely verboten on frameless glass for this very reason.
i don't think we have ever seen damage to the F-Type dash leather such as your car shows...it must have baked in the sun for very long periods.

Yep, I tire of having to tell my passengers - mainly SWMBO - to NOT close the door by using the window but they keep on doing it!
Surely someone on AliExpress should be able to provide aftermarket caps with the up to date font and growler. A bit odd actually because Jaguar dropped the font and growler on those aftermarket ones as long ago as some time around 2013.
As said about that dash damage - looks like some serious sun baking has been going on.
Ah, didn't think of the closing the door by the window issue. Sounds like a reasonable explanation. Luckily the few passengers I've had in my F-Type so far all instinctively closed by using the door and not the window.
The cat on the aftermarket center cap looks stoned.
Agreed, but that is the correct style for older Jags, pre 2006 I think (before Tata took over).
It's just that suppliers like AliExpress are too lazy or ignorant or cheap to bother with speccing the correct updated style.

Actually, the 2017 Florida car that Mike R got had shrunken binnacle leather, too. He got the dealer to replace the bin under warranty, but it took convincing BY HIS WIFE. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...nnacle+leather
You owners of 'high end' Fs really need to take care of the leather....especially that which bakes in the sun.
(In this case, makes me glad that we have a base model, without that type of frippery...)
some people just don’t get the most obvious hint and i hate to tell them what not to do before they actually do it 😩

Thanks for the link, though i couldn’t find any useful info there and couldn’t find anything in the stickyed thread either.
its weird how everything else seems to be fine and only that cover is lifting so bad, the leather feels completely dry to the touch, and the leather underneath it still feels smooth and supple. So im not entirely convinced the lack of protection is the sole reason.
I already got the windshield ceramic tinted and use a sunshade whenever possible, not sure what else is needed without adding an ugly dash cover mat ;<
i went ahead and played with the cover for a bit and was able to pull off the plastic cover above the steering column, revealing what to be 2 screws holding the leather cover on, space is too tight to see what screws they are though, and there doesn’t seem to be enough space to remove the screws without removing the binnacle anyways, arggggg
also found some more listing for lower price and confirming it’s indeed a separate part from the gauge cluster, so that’s a good news
Plastic cover above steering column, comes out easily with a gentle pull, no screws The bracket and the leather cover is one piece(yellow circle), held on by a screw, same on the right hand side. The seam in the red circle should be 2 pieces. Jagged edge similar to my damaged area Some more screws, these should be holding the gauge cluster Left side Weird stuff underneath the cover, looks Lima it’s integrated into the gauge cluster instead of the cover
A listing of the cover still attached to the dash with no gauge cluster A listing showing the cover in one separate piece and the under side
So if anyone has done similar job please please share the shortest route to get this thing off, heres a video of the whole damaged area showing how bad it looks
And inputs for what to check/fix the glass rattle would be welcome!!
