Default Costco Gasoline?

I just joined Costco and was considering filling up there. Wanted to run it by the forum to see if anyone ever had issues with using Costco gasoline? I know it is Top Tier, whereas Sam's Club gasoline is not. How does it compare with other brands?

I searched the forum for information on it but the only recent posts were comments on the price and not the quality.

Ha! This is almost as big a can of worms as discussing motor oil or politics! It definitely qualifies as Top Tier, and I've used plenty of it in the past. That said, I typically run Chevron Supreme in my cars that call for premium gasoline. Would I use another Top Tier brand in a pinch? Sure, but Chevron is the steady diet for my forced induction cars.

I use Costco with no problems while being tuned by VAP and now with a Race chip. Have not experienced any knock or pings. I do however get 20-30 more miles per tank when using Shell or Mobil.

Since most fuel is distributed via pipelines and out of public terminals the gasoline is all the same. The difference is in the additives injected at the truck loading rack. Top tier fuel has to meet minimum additive specs. That doesn’t mean that some brands don’t offer an additive package that far exceeds the minimum specs.

I find there is always a long line at my local Costco gas station. Why would I waste my time lining up to save few $?

Aww Jeez, riding MOTORCYCLES, talking 5 gallons max, my Harley Dumbison riding buddy INSISTED on saving ten cents a gallon by finding the cheapest regular. Would circle around LOOKING for a two dollar savings and expect me to follow him. I didn't EVEN tell him about GasBuddy.

I'd go across the street to Chevron and pay as much as a buck more per gallon more HOPING not to have clogged fuel injectors down the road.

FWIW saw $1.98 regular here in Phoenix today. What's everyone else seeing?

Around my area it can pay off to look around. I saw 3.89 for premium today, and another gas station with 3.09 (albeit not top tier).

The OEM car runs fine with 93 octane. Any additional mods (tune etc) will require a consistent QUALITY 93 octane fuel and it's even better to run higher (95) for you VelocityAP stage 2 guys out there. North America measure of Octane*

Agreed. A lot of people don’t realize this. The biggest differentiator is the small amount of additive packs the different companies add.

I can't recall the federal code and I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but, federal law requires that all gasoline be of the same quality and chemical make up so the fuel can be used in any passenger vehicle. Perceived differences are based on personal use and driving habits. If you were to consistently use the most recognizable brand (#1 top tier) and you were out on a road trip, about to run out of gas and the only gas station you found was at the absolute bottom tier, that gas, by law, must meet federal requirements for use in passenger vehicles.

It's all about marketing and getting in front of the customers eyes.

Nay sayers can fuss and fume all you want, but there literally is no difference in brands of gasoline. Think about it, would you produce inferior fuel to undercut the competitors in hopes of moving up the ladder with lower prices?

It's all about the size of the marketing budget and the willingness to promote

Ditto, Ditto, Ditto!...when I'm not filling with Costco, I'm filling with Sam's Club. All of my vehicles, nary a problem ever.

I’ve been using Costco gas for over 20 years with no problems ever. Everything from my 2009 XK with 32,000 miles to BMW’s, MB, Mini Coopers and Subaru’s, etc.. No hiccups.
