Custom order vs Off the lot?
Besides not liking to wait, the other thing for me about custom ordering is, during the waiting period I'd probably second guess myself out of the car
Did I get the wrong wheels? Should I get a different color? Forgot I could get this option? Should I really be buying a car that I drive once a week instead of saving/investing/feeding the homeless.

But then, I did once own 4 models of the same car simultaneously...
First ordered car of my life,I knew exactly what I wanted and there's no way I would have found a car optioned like mine sitting on a dealers lot...without a lot of extra packages.
MSRP on my car was just a hair under $75K.

Off the lot. I've ordered in the past and since I keep looking/dreaming I will usually change what I really want. So now when I find one that is 90%+ what I want, I buy it. In this case glad I did as I got more options that I would have ordered and love them all.
Works for me anyway.

Ditto! As Buick stated it would have been hard to find a car with everything I wanted but, as most everyone on this forum knows, I lost patience at the end although mostly from the time the car arrived in port until it reached the dealer. Almost exactly 4 months from order date to delivery but all my recent cars have been ordered and it is worth the wait at least to me.
For me the desire to order has little to do with the price. I even ordered my first Mustang ($2800). I buy a new car every ten years on average, so the car has to be just exactly what I want. (In fact, no F-Type if they hadn't offered the 6 speed.)

MSRP was just north of $92,000 (or was it just north of $93,000?). And, as I wrote earlier in this thread, was made an offer I couldn't refuse.
I think it's a function of one's personality. My own creates preferences in many things that are varied and flexible. I might choose different things from month-to-month or week-to-week. With regard to the F-Type: it could either be a V6 or V8; manual or automatic (although I had no choice); white, silver, fire-sand, salsa, or IRR (too bad they don't have nice LeMans medium blue); and any number of wheel combinations.
I've custom-ordered many times the past, and when the vehicle actually showed up, I've often felt that maybe I would have chosen something different on delivery day, but have never actually been "disappointed." The only thing that never changes for me is that a car like the F-Type has to be a convertible.
Lastly, I've ALWAYS been able to negotiate a far better deal off the lot and ALWAYS eventually been able to find something I was very happy with, as I am now with the F-Type I found on the showroom floor.
I've also known a lot of folks whose preferences are more rigid. Sorry, I was trained as a psychologist.

And this whole time the answer is staring you (literally) in the face!
Officer, I have a condition called frontplateophobia.
Eureka!!!

Understood, and was merely providing what I had hoped was a little levity.
Fact is front plate or no front plate - regardless - and in any configuration and/or color combination, the F-Type rocks!!!
Can I get an amen?

As was I, but my form of humor tends to be served, "dry." It's "missing something without the front plate," (e.g. it's missing the front plate) . . . LOL.
Amen!
Amen!

Well, I'm not. There's got to be a solution. I've been pondering the use of an Altec EU400 electrically retracting plate holder. I checked the dimensions on the nose of the car and think it can fit between the lower splitter and the bottom of the nose opening.
