Custom order vs Off the lot?
Mine was off the lot, but it hadn't been driven and had exactly the spec I was looking full with the exception of the upgraded stereo which I wasn't really bothered about. I also got a very good deal at that time.
First car I ordered. But I ordered in March of 2013, before they were shipping. Was afraid there'd be a long lead time otherwise. The dealer got a Salsa Red V6S convertible a month before mine arrived, but it had a red interior that clashed with the Salsa Red. So I waited for mine.
I have a feeling that this forum is a custom order crowd (not me in this case), which is not representative of the general population. This crowd also seems to be coupe heavy.

Off the lot convertible. But if I would have ordered one it would have been the exact same car, it had exactly what I wanted. It went home with me the same day I saw it right off the transport truck into my garage.
I had messed around online before I went to a dealer. When I got to the dealer, the only thing different from what I had chosen was the wheels. Had I ordered the car I think I would have chosen the turbine wheels. I keep looking at them thinking I should get them still. I'll likely just leave what I have. If the sapphire blue car they had Was an S I would have gotten that. The colour mattered more to me than the engine before I drove anything. Then I drove the R and they had it in blue. The rest is history....
But for me it wasn't really a choice of coupe over convertible as it was a choice of R over S. For 2015, if you wanted an R it only came in the coupe.
Lovemonet,
I completely understand. Having lived with, and loved, a 500+ HP performance vehicle (Z06), I came to the conclusion that all that power on what I used as basically a daily-driver was massive overkill. However, every car enthusiast should experience that at least once.

I suppose it makes sense, custom ordering. But I just don't have the patience.
This convertible is rather amazing. Not only is it as quiet and solid as a coupe, I find myself using it top-down all the time, even when chilly out or with rain threatening. Since you can put the top up or down almost instantly on the move up to 30 mph, there are all kinds of opportunities to do either without any hassle.
I initially was going to order the 2016, but truth be told i was not excited about some of the changes and also thought about a potential price bump with the addition of AWD.
I live in Southeast so AWD is not necessary, on top of the fact that i daily drive a Range Rover.

It's most certainly not a case of "settling." With regard to cars, I'm just not "rigid," with regard to what I like. There are several external and interior colors, wheels, etc., that I like almost equally. If I were to purchase another F-Type down the road, I'd go a different direction.
