Default Daily Driver

Hello all! I've been eyeballing 2014 V8S's and have looked through what I can find available on the market. I have to admit, I'm somewhat perplexed. Every car I see available has been driven approximately 2,000 to 7,000 miles per year. Total mileage is in the 20,000 to 50,000 mile range. That seems quite low to me, particularly for a daily driver.

As a point of reference, I currently own a 2009 Nissan 370Z and I've driven 20,000 miles per year in it for the last 11 years. If the 2014 F-Type is about 7 years old, why don't I see F-Types with 140,000 miles (20,000 miles per year)?

I know the Z isn't comparable to the F-Type, but do you guys actually drive your F-Type on a daily basis and rack up the miles? Am I missing something?

Many forum member don’t put a lot of miles on the cars but most others do put lots of miles on even if it’s not their daily driver. Many forum members do daily drive it. I know that mine sits somewhere between a “daily and just drives it a lot” on the spectrum. My 2014 V8S has 45,000 or so on it now. I believe DJS Has over 57k on his 2014. Most people who lease these cars put under 10k a year on them. If your seeing low mileage 2014s that is not a bad thing especially if they lived a good garage life and the yearly maintaining was done. Gives you more time and miles to play. Your highly unlikely to find one over 100k.

And I’m in the middle of a 4000 mile road trip. I’m hoping for some nice photo ops next week.

Mine is a daily driver, but I only drive approximately 6,000 miles a year. Life in the big city.

There are a lot of factors. For example, I work from home the majority of time and although I love cars, I generally don’t go out just to drive around. I also have several other cars; each specializes in meeting a specific needs (I.e utility, winter car, and pizza delivery machine, etc.), so none would ever approach the annual mileage you mention combined much less on one individual car. Basically comes down to lifestyle, need, desire.

another reason why some of these cars have very low miles is JLR is or was offering a low mileage lease, i think its 5k miles a year for 3 yrs.

I think F-Types for many folks are their "fun car" and not their primary driver which accounts for the low mileage. Also take into account many live in parts of the country where the climate just isn't accommodating for daily driving a low sports car. Being in the upper Midwest I get *maybe* 6-7 months out of the year that is "fun car" weather. Summer in Wisconsin is beautiful, last year it happened on a Tuesday

Another thing to consider is that sales listings are a biased sample.

I grew up in northeastern Wisconsin, so I know exactly what you mean. Though I love being able to have the top down or ride my bike all year now, there is nothing like spring and summer in northern Wisconsin. It just feels better. Could just be the nostalgia though...

Thanks everyone. I'm still surprised that there's nobody here who drives the heck out of their car. Who knows, if I get one, I might be the first. I'll have to report back! :P

The F-Type is my daily driver, even though I have 3 other vehicles to choose from. The others (MINI, pickup, FJ40) are purpose specific tools. The MINI only gets used when parking conditions are uncertain.

My 2016 F Type is my daily driver, owned it three years, put 44.000 miles on it during that time.

Alright. Now we're getting respectable commute mileage. Thanks, Paul and Unhingd. I've seen one or two for sale that also suggest it is possible to drive the heck out of it. Still looking for the right one!

Before my 2016 died, I put approx 50K in 2.5yrs or so. And I considered myself a big commuter/driver. Corona has found me out of work and out of commutes, to a great extent. However, every single mile is loaded with fun, now. =)
My 2019 picked up March of last year only has 10K on it. very sad face

That's a lot and good to hear. Did you have maintenance issues during the time you were commuting a lot? Why did it die?

Yesterday I went to look at a 2014 V8S about 45 minutes away with around 35,000 miles for around $35,000. When I got there, someone else had just purchased it. The plates were being screwed on. The search continues!

No shame in only driving a couple thousand miles each year when its all for fun. My total required mileage is usually about 3000 annually and I split that up with other vehicles - I don't think its a bad thing to not drive the wheels off something and I quite enjoy performing minimal maintenance and not having to always be in the market for tires and brakes etc.

I had my XKR to 60,000km (so maybe 40,000 miles and it was flawless save for a faulty headlamp module repaired under warranty.

My F type only has about 25,000 miles on it even though it is my daily for 4 years. It has also been very reliable.

o2 Sensor update made something bizarre happen and the car just became manic depressive, so Jag took it back and gave me a 2019. well worth the experience.
