Did I do this right? (CTEK battery maintainer install)
Hey everyone, I recently got a 2021 F Type R and I’ve been loving it. I live in New York and the weather this time of year sucks so I won’t be driving it much and after doing some research on here I figured that it would be smart to get a CTEK battery maintainer to keep the battery in good shape when I’m not driving it much. I’m pretty handy and tried to do the install under the trunk with the eyelets based on some guides I’ve seen here but the battery setup in mine doesn’t look like any I could find. I ended up connecting the eyelets to the battery terminals as can be seen in the picture. It seems to work as far as the CTEK saying it’s charging the battery but I wanted to be sure I’m not bypassing the BMS or doing something wrong. Thanks!
You have bypassed BMS because you have connected directly to the battery terminals. Move the negative to a ground point on the chassis. Any of the visible screws should be ok so long as not covered in paint

I'm not sure that's correct, but also not sure it isn't. I thought it was the positive that needed to go somewhere other than the battery terminal, e.g. the bus bar.

Nup, definitely the negative.
Cos the BMS module is attached to the negative terminal so that module is bypassed if you attach the tender/maintainer lead to the negative terminal.

I connected my positive to a terminal on the bus bar and the negative to one of the bolts of the chassis and it works just fine.

In case this might be of interest to you, this is how I set mine up (no BCM issues this way etc.) —>
there is no difference electrically between the neg. terminal on the battery and any chassis ground, the battery is grounded to the chassis frame,. take a ohm meter and check between negitive battery terminal and any chassis ground point.
There is also no problem using alligator clips and connecting to the charge / jump start connections under the hood I used cheap noco battery maintainers that have a charge profile for AGM batteries left 3 jags like that for 2 months without any type of problem. Then tested the batteries last week after returning ...fully charged I think the chargers where approx 25 dollars each.

maybe Im wrong but no problems yet
The battery negative able goes straight to the chassis and the positive straight to the bus bar. I've charged from the battery and from the jumper terminal under the hood. I've had no problems with any of that. I've also replaced my battery without any special reset and the system learned whatever it needed to learn.
The charging pigtail instructions prompted me to finally install my own, but I want longer than the one foot lead that came with my C-Tek. Off to look for options now ...

On closer inspection, there is what I assume to be an inductive ammeter on the negative terminal. It's visible in the picture of post #1 as the black device between the battery post and where the C-Tek harness is connected. That location would not bypass the BMS.
I'm going to connect my harness according to the Jaguar instructions (coupe is shown, so that works for me) but I'll extend the leads on the pigtail first.
