Hi everyone or G' day!

I have placed my order in late January for the updated 2016 F type model. At that point in time, the dealer in Oz did not have any specifications or were even aware of the updated f type. I took the plunge and placed an order for the base v6 coupe, Polaris white with optional panoramic roof, seat memory pack2, and parking pack.

The active sports exhaust with switchable option and the Meridian 770w sound system(March Built) are standard for 2016. They were options prior to the update and it cost close to AUD12,000. I have decided to stick with the 18inch Vella rims as I was worried about the ride comfort.

I was only able to test drive the coupe v6S and they had no base v6 at that time. I was aware that it has a different drive and power setup compared to the base v6.

The only problem now is, my wife does not know I have ordered this car
She did come with me for a 2 hour test drive in the v6s but she felt that this car drew too much attention in public especially with the loud active exhaust.

My car is expected to arrive in OZ mid May as the first batch of the 2016 MY15 F type. I seriously can't wait to drive and the looks on my wife's face

Hi Gene

Great to see another Melbournian on the forum. Congratulations on ordering your new car. You're going to love it!

My wife had a similar first reaction but now she loves the car.

Don't worry - you get used to everybody looking at you... Eventually... Sort of.

Drop by the Victoria forum in the Regional section. Link is here...

Australia - Victoria / Tasmania - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

We're planning a drive day Sunday week. Maybe you'd like to come along and meet a few other Vic forum members? You'll find the thread running near the top of the page above.

Either way, drop a new thread in there and introduce yourself. They're a nice bunch!

Cheers,
Oz

Welcome to the F-Type Forum Gene!

One can assume - especially since she went on the test drive with you - that she will take this splendid surprise in stride? My wife also is not the flashy type but went along for the ride, literally and figuratively; particularly so as she knew how much I loved (lusted) it. Speaking tongue-in-cheek (and we don't know how long you've been married) and merely as a joke, it is cheaper (much) than an affair (although no one is suggesting that's even on the table). I suppose one could use that line of reasoning behind getting the car although I would strongly suggest against using it...hence the "joke", and assuming you're surely not newlyweds!

Lots of luck and send pictures (of the car and the surprise look on your wife's face).

Best regards,
RJ52

You'd better tell her that Grandma is on the roof!

Cat on the Roof
A man left his cat with his brother while he went on vacation for a week. When he came back, he called his brother to see when he could pick the cat up. The brother hesitated, then said, "I'm so sorry, but while you were away, the cat died."

The man was very upset and yelled, "You know, you could have broken the news to me better than that. When I called today, you could have said he was on the roof and wouldn't come down. Then when I called the next day, you could have said that he had fallen off and the vet was working on patching him up. Then when I called the third day, you could have said he had passed away."

The brother thought about it and apologized.

"So how's Grandma?" asked the man.

"She's on the roof and won't come down."

Welcome, Gene T !

Congrats and welcome. Just tell your wife all the attention is at her, not the car

Welcome from another Aussie. You will love the car.

My wife also thinks I am a w*nker and doesn't like the attention, but on a nice Sunday afternoon with the top down she sneakily enjoys a ride.

Welcome to the forum Gene! Be sure to post photos when she arrives. You will love this car, and I suspect your wife will as well (although she may not admit it).

Welcome Gene!

Sounds like you'll be getting your ride the same time I get mine here in the states. Waiting is so difficult...

You guys make me laugh, but worry a bit at the same time. I just recently started "dating" again, and the woman I am seeing is very sensible and doesn't like "flashy"...

Well, she can either get used to it or I can find a new woman who likes the attention I know the F-Type is going to get. At least she's not a wife....

I wouldn't worry...too much. While my wife is extremely stylish she is also not into flash or being too showy (both qualities to which the F-Type fails miserably) and is definitely the sensible one in our family. I can assure you she's enjoys the car, the smile it puts on my face and, yes, surely loves the sights (looks) and sounds it makes. I wouldn't put too great an emphasis how your girlfriend feels about the car you drive - a shallow measure if you ask me - although having a significant other who can share your love and joy of a great automobile is surely a plus.

I think I am regretting not getting the 19inch wheels

This will be my weekend car and I don't intend to take it to track. I want a comfortable ride rather than bone breaking kind (previous civic type R has broken my back).

I've seen a couple of used F type advertised online with 18inch wheels which I thought did not differ much in appearance with the 19... Unless I'm in denial

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I purchased a new '14 that came with the 18" Velas even though I didn't care for them much at the time. However, the car was otherwise equipped exactly to my liking, and the deal was too good to pass up.

I managed to find a slightly used set of 20" Gyrodynes, mounted and balanced with essentially new OEM P-Zeros and TPMS sensors for $3K USD. I kept my Velas and original tires as backups and will probably mount all-season tires to them at some point.

BTW, the ride quality difference is really not that much better on the 18" tires on the base car, which is very firm. However, they are likely more forgiving on pothole impacts, etc.

Mine came with 20". I was worried about the ride, but it is not that bad and others here seem to say from their experience it doesn't make that much difference. Have to say the black 20"s blade wheels look fantastic on the car.

I think the 18s give the car a much more old school look, more e- type heritage which is not necessarily a bad thing. The 20 s give it a much more modern and aggressive look.

Hmmm, 18 inch = "old school"? Here is "old school" - 14 inch (the ride is anything but soft in this old GTX):
