Default Dreaded Coolant Smell

When I drove into the garage last night I caught a strong whiff of coolant.
No sign of leakage but when I checked the coolant after cool down, the level was just below minimum.
Fortunately I had some JLR spec. coolant and was able to top it up- with over half a quart.
I had previously topped it off when new about 2 years ago and at the time, just assumed it did not come completely filled from the factory.
JLR has serviced the car twice in the meantime, most recently about 2 months/1,000 miles ago, and never reported a coolant issue.
So, getting ready for a service visit and just hope they can pin it down.
In the meantime I am watching the level carefully.
My assumption is that the leak is significant as I have never smelled coolant previously.
Just hoping it is something benign and not an engine problem..

Since your '21 will have the new cross-pipe design it's probably not from that. Definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Got a service appointment Monday.
Just a bit nervous about driving it into Boston - about 30 miles.
Does this car have an overheating warning that works before damage occurs??

I have seen references to a "low coolant level" warning but have not found it in the handbook.
Does the F-Type give a low coolant warning?

I presume there's still a temperature gauge on the dash. If you're not seeing an active drip, you should be OK for the drive into town. Throw a jug of water in the trunk just-in-case. Don't worry too much about the mix - whatever they find is bound to involve draining/refilling the system.

Yep, I've had it come on twice now.
When I had a cracked/split/leaking hose, one of the two thin ones at the front end of the expansion tank tube.
IIRC the warning came on when the level in the expansion tank was well below the Min mark, at about 4 cm left in the tank.
I babied the car home once the warning came on (only some 10 km / 6 miles) and the temp gauge never budged from the normal reading as there was still plenty of coolant left in the system.

Personally, I’d cover my butt by calling the service manager and asking for his recommendation on whether to drive or flat bed it to the dealership.

So, they pressure tested (21psi x 20 minutes) the cooling system and declared it leak free!!
No explanation of where the 1/2 quart of coolant had gone.
If the dealer had checked coolant at the last annual service, that volume disappeared in just 1,400 miles.
If they did not even check it the previous year, then it could have taken 16,000 miles.
No explanation for why I smelled coolant.
So, now I shall be checking the level every few days.
Apparently there is low coolant sensor set below the low level fill mark, so that should give some warning.
I am still baffled as to why JLR said "the engine can use some coolant"!!
If this is like my previous dealer experiences, it always takes two visits before they agree that there really is an issue.

I had something like this with a previous new GM car which lost over a litre of oil in the first 9,000 miles. When I queried it, the garage guy said "these engines will burn a bit of oil" but then discovered a seal was leaking. When that was fixed, no drop in oil level between services. Presumably a similar explanation for drops in level of any fluid?
