driver mirror whistliing
Has anyone else noticed a whistling noise coming from the driver side mirror? I notice this when driving with the window down between 35-55 MPH. Any one else noticed this and fixed?
I remember it was a common problem on the XF, and the F-Type has very similar mirrors with the bit that usually whistles being almost identical.
That bit is the small channel in the top edge, where the black mirror cover joins the body of the mirror housing, it's about 1 mm wide and .5 mm deep.
To test if this is the source of the whistle stick a piece of tape down hard over that gap for the full length of the mirror and go for a drive, if the whistle disappears you have found the problem.
Not sure how to permanently and aesthetically fix it though, my best guess would be to fill the gap with black RTV windscreen sealant and clean off the excess with turps before it sets.

hah! that'd be nice if it whistled a cool tune at least. Good idea on the tape - I'll give that a try and then let the dealer try and fix it. I'd just rather try and find the issue myself if I can, lest I take an extra trip or two to the dealer.
