Default yes

that is exactly my question without launch control what is the best approach to zero-60 with minimal wheel spin. I am thinking the snowflake mode may work. If you get an answer please let me know. Thank you

Snowflake mode introduces all kinds of throttle management. I wouldn't be surprised if that more than doubles your 0-60 times.

auto, dynamic mode, start light gas and whale on it when you feel it hooks ....

Thanks. Your response was super helpful. I was out on some country roads today and that's what I ended up doing: light on gas until I felt traction and then I nailed it. Your comment is confirmation that I have been looking for. I have an autocross day Sunday and what you say will pay off. Thanks again.

I am not used to such a powerful car. My other car is a Lotus Elise and I know exactly what it is going to do in most circumstances. I'm just discovering what this F type R will do. I was glad to discover today that even with tire spin the car does not swerve (on dry road).
Thanks again.

one more thing. When you say "auto" are you recommending that I not shift but let the car shift itself?

Yes, let it shift automatically. Dynamic mode automatically raises the shift points for max acceleration.

So I put it in "dynamic" [checkered flag] and leave it in drive[ D]? Would that be optimal for autocross? I am so used to shifting that I never leave it in Drive, just checking. Thank you

It really depends upon how tight the course is. On a tight course with very short "straights," you might be in 2nd gear virtually the entire time and dynamic/manual might be quickest.

I've also done a lot of autocross in both a Lotus Elise and a C6 Z06. I'm used to manual shifting as well, but I suspect the F-Type might be quicker in dynamic and automatic. The ZF auto is very good at picking the right gear based upon rpm. If it were me, I'd do a lot of experimenting both ways.

For straightline acceleration, and on most road courses, I think the car would end up being quicker in automatic, but in all cases put it dynamic mode.

Sounds right to me. I suspect I won't get out of 2nd gear. If I have enough chances, I'll try both automatic and shifting. With automatic I'll be able to focus on steering a bit more. I'm just not used to trusting automatic; this will be a learning experience. Thanks for your comments.

While I totally agree about Dynamic mode, AND letting the car shift itself, I'd put it into S instead of D.

Sport + Dynamic seems to be the highest amount of performance. S also raises the shift points a bit higher than just Dynamic. You actually might not shift at all on the entire AutoX course. It's highly probable that you'll always be in second.

Default I wish you could hear me chuckle

The fact is shifting is fun! My hunch the time difference will be nearly negligible.
The F Type is not the fastest car but it is one of the most fun. I need to have fun sub 80 miles an hour, and the sound does the trick. Thanks again for your input.

I finally tried it several times yesterday. No luck. My conclusion is MY14 V8S does not have it.

I don't think any of the V8 cars have launch control. They have plenty of power to spin the rear tires without raising the stall speed on the torque converter. I believe that was a feature on the AT V6 cars only.

no launch in V8 cars, too much torque ... I know there are cars with this much torque and launch but they usually have AWD with even 50/50 distribution and a dual clutch and not an auto. To have launch in the V8 they would need a different transmission for sure or your transmission and clutch would stay behind at the starting line ....
