Default Emergency Park Release

A SEARCH and another perusal through the STICKY section didn't find this answer for me...

I found references to the Emergency Park Release (EPR) in several spots in the Service Manual (page 12,933 of the Service Manual)

The EPR appears to be a cable-operated release of the PARK mechanism (useful if you need to transport/flatbed the car). Trouble is, I can't access it.

In the cubby between the seats (where the CD player is, on my '14), I see the plastic cover, but it won't come off readily without a tool. Do I need to pry with great vigor? I don't want to knacker the plastic piece if I'm wrong.

TIA

Looks like a 3” spackling spatula would be the right tool to use to avoid any knackering.

Just tried this - I used a quarter, and the front popped up OK, but the back was stiff enough that I didn't go any further. I'll get it off if I have to.

If you look very closely at that plastic cover piece it has two little slots in it on the under edge, one each end.
I carry a snub nosed flat blade screwdriver in the cubby for just that purpose, insert the blade into the slots and twist and hey presto the cover pops off.

Send me your quarter? LOL, I'll make this automotive 'investment' pay off yet!

Ah-HA! Thank you. These line up with the metal clips that secure the cover in place. Lifting there with a smallish screwdriver lifted the cover without bending/cracking it.

Applying a thin layer of grease to the clips' 'mating areas' has made the grip less tenacious, and will reduce the force needed to release the cover (should I need to) the next time.

Thanks All!
