Engine is replaced/blown - F-Type R - Oil STARVATION!
Update:
It is now 11/29/17 and still no phone calls for my car. I was told on 11/03/17 that it would be 1 and MAX 2 weeks before I was back in the car driving..
It's now 11/29/17 and not even so much as a phone call for the last month basically.
Here is a few numbers for you guys:
As of today: 104 days getting fixed in total!
Time since I have last SAT in my car and drove it? 84 days and counting.
My god... what a fail.

I would be furious! I have not read many (if any) stellar reports regarding JLR customer service. And all the while you are still paying...
Back when I was in high school ('60s) and driving beaters in New England, the ticking noise was always an indication of low oil and/or poor circulation...particularly during the cold winter months. During the winter, 10W-30 usually solved the ticking noise, especially once the engine and oil warmed up and started flowing. However, during the summer, a ticking noise usually meant the lifters weren't getting sufficient oil. Something to think about.
Update:
Still no car. Dropped off Sept. 5th.. it is now almost February.
Yeah, you read that right.
09/05/2017 - 01/29/2018 or 146 days..
Or in other words. 4 months and 24 days later. Last I called about a few days ago, no idea when it'll be done they said.
Been paying payments for the last 5 months.

You're more patient than I would be. I hope you're somewhere where you'd be storing it for the winter anyway.
At this point, I'd be talking to an attorney.
Good luck, and keep us posted!

You should engage with an attorney. Maybe could even get a class action going on since you are not the only remember on this forum to suffer from this issue. My car almost suffered the same fate, but thanks to JVIII, I did a quick check of my oil when I started seeing the same codes as him and what do u know, my oil was super low. Sucks you had to wait this long, I'm freaking out about having to wait 2 months for my smashed car repairs.

Just discovered that I need to replace my motor in my F type. Just moved from California to Vegas and been here to weeks was driving around and the engine light came on. It stayed yellow for 3 days and since it could be the gas cap I was waiting until after labor day to take in to dealer. I was driving about 2 miles from my house and started hearing a loud knocking noise. Barely mad it home then had it looked at to discover there is no oil in the car! There was never an low or just oil indicator light that came on. Even now the light is not present. Mechanic shows my how to access the oil on the panel and it shows pretty much empty.
Any suggestions
Thanks in advance for your help in this matter

Hey guys, so I recently was posting on the bimmerpost forums asking what car to get next since I'm in the process of Lemon'ing my 16' F-Type R.
Then one of the F-Type owners on there said to post on here about my situation to give you guys an update! (Shoutout to Kief)
My issues that happened in order (each was a different visit):
Visit #1: CEL - Supposedly was open gas door (2 days getting fixed)
Visit #2: CEL - C02 Sensor (5 days getting fixed)
Visit #3: CEL - C02 Sensor and new complete exhaust system (had a leak I guess) (10 days getting fixed)
Visit #4: Sound System update for static (2 days getting fixed)
Visit #5: (9/5/2017) Ticking noise from the motor (no video I'm sorry, it only happened under load so hard to record) Sounded like piston slap/rod knock.
They replaced the supercharger thinking it was S/C belts, sound continued and they thought maybe the S/C itself had loose parts in it (turbine maybe)
Of course after a 3 week wait for parts and install.. sound is exactly the same. (21 days getting fixed)
Visit #6: (It's important to note that the date is 9/26/2017) Ticking noise, except this time they think it's the whole motor needing replacement. Few days later, they said the motor had only 1-2 liters of oil in it. THE WHOLE MOTOR. They instantly ask me if I've had an oil change. I didn't because it was done at 6k miles. It was 16k now. They basically said unless you have a way to prove an oil change, the motor is YOURS TO PAY FOR. This was a scary time because the car was stock and the dealership who did the work is not in business anymore and i couldn't find the records! But alas, it was just a scare and they ended up approving the the new motor.
Visit #6 (cont'd): 10/8/2017.. a whole 2 week laters just to approve motor replacement. 10/17. New motor is in, but wait.. of course they found it needs new wheel bearings.. and new brakes? Higher up's must have known I had a lemon lawyer who submitted papers in 2 weeks before.
Update to a few days ago, they have just literally been keeping the car, the new motor was almost put in 3 weeks ago. They now claim after putting in new wheel bearings and brakes (nothing was wrong with them in the first place) that the crossbolt for something is needing replacement... like what???
Total amount of days getting fixed as of 10/30/2017: 74 days getting fixed.
So basically, if you're going to lemon a car make sure it's not at the dealership because it almost seems as if it's being held hostage while the case goes through so they can keep it or get it ready by fixing ABSOLUTELY everything with it before it goes back to auction with the lemon title and what have you. I have still not so much as seen my car since 9/5/17...
And to add fuel to the fire, they told me the car was going to be done by last Friday (aka 3-4 days ago) and no call since...

I would start checking the oil and coolant regularly. If you have any engine lights STOP driving the car until it has been checked out.
You drove 3 days with an engine light on? Why?
You bought a car and don't know how to check the oil level?

Man, you need a code reader. I feel your confusion in a way though if no message came on explicitly saying low oil etc...I'm very new to my F-type and don't know if it would explicitly alert on low oil. Regardless, yeah man, driving around with a check engine light solid for days is playing with fire. I know that's what you probably don't want to hear right now, but I suspect this is a huge lessoned learned in the making. I hope not for your sake but....
Sorry for your troubles. That's terrible news.
Bah

Given that the underside is almost entirely shielded, it is entirely possible, even likely, that there would be no oil on the ground. But this is a good reminder to do the electronic check of the oil level regularly.
There was no oil in my garage or any where that I parked. The code reader doesn't show it but did lead to accessing the information system on the car where it shows low oil and still no warning of low oil ever.
FYI- you cant check the oil low but one way which is to access the on board computer hoping there is a warning to check the oil or find oil leaks on the ground some where. This was not the case.

Do you know if it should give some sort of a “low oil” message?
According to my Owner's Handbook there is no such automated message and you have to go into the electronic oil level check system to see any such message.
Quote:
"CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL
The engine oil level is not monitored when the
engine is running and/or the vehicle is in
motion."
However there is a warning/message "engine oil pressure low" which if triggered would pop up in the display area (between the speedo and tacho).
I would guess that if the engine oil is very low then the oil pressure would also be low enough to trigger this warning but maybe not?

As for the "check engine" light being illuminated the service advisor at the dealership I use has told me more than once that a steady check engine light is okay. (In both of my cases, the cause was a defective O2 sensor.) It's when the check engine light flashes that the engine must be immediately shut down.
I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. However, I must thank you for calling our attention to the sequence of events. From now on when a check engine light illuminates on one of our Jags I'll make sure to treat the cause as if there is no oil in the engine, shut the thing down, and check the oil level.
