Default Entertainment driving home tonight

I 270 in the Peoples Republik is often a parking lot, but tonight I got a good bit of entertainment on the way home from work. This is a bit lengthy.

About a mile after I got on going north I see flashing lights in the mirror. Two state cops go by on the left shoulder. This can't be good. Since I'm in the HOV lane, I'm moving. Another mile or so, I see the lights again and they're stopped. Crap I think. An accident. It will take forever to get home. Still moving in the HOV though. HOV closed so I move over one. Get close to the accident, 2 left lanes closed. Doesn't take too long to get by. My daughter, riding shot gun, says "shouldn't be anybody on the road now. She's right. Road clear - we're quickly doing 80.

Look in the mirror, two sets of flashing lights approaching. Where the f did they come from? I hope they take VISA. I move over a lane. Next thing I know a white Honda Accord with VA plates flies by to the left. Must have been doing 110+. Next comes the two sets of flashing lights (state cops). Also doing 100+. Cool. A high speed chase. They go to the shoulder and are quickly out of sight. Sirens and a couple more state cops, this time on the right shoulder doing well in excess of the speed limit. More sirens and cops. At least 6.

Crap. This dumba$$ will wreck, they'll close the friggen road and I'll never get home.

A couple miles on traffic stops. Creeping along. Sirens. Now County cops on the right shoulder. Stopped again. Sirens. Fire truck.Still creeping along. Sirens. Ambulance. I friggen knew it! The fockhead must have wrecked. A mile on (10 minutes) both lanes blocked. Have to use the left shoulder. Sure enough the douche-bag was backwards against the guard rail.

My daughter, riding shot gun, says "shouldn't be anybody on the road now. This time she was right. Got behind a chick in a Honda Pilot and up the road we went. 90+ for miles. Quite immature and dangerous of me, but what heck. This car is so stable at that speed it feels just like it does at 40.

Let the hating begin.

I think you demonstrated a great deal of constraint keeping it under 100. Very mature.

My twenty something year old daughter would have made a comment along the lines of 'I thought this car was faster'.

Sounds like your daughter would make a good navigator.

90 isn't taxing 4th... If hating begins at 90mph behind a Honda Pilot we're in a lot of trouble...

I was going to say.... 90 is part of my daily commute. The cat needs its legs stretched both morning and night!

Did you have to take it to the vet to get that prescription?

My daughter won't even let me engage dynamic mode when she's in the car... and the looks I get if I even think about moving the shifter to sports...

My cat is very scared of the vet! Riding solo on my commutes good sir. I also try not to take any phone calls during these times as its my chance to clear my head before I get to the office and after I leave - plus, its hard to hear a call at those speeds with the top down.

Did you consider joining the high speed chase? The cops could have used a fast car to help...

Agree with the theme here, you really need to get the car over 90, or as I prefer, over 100 on regular basis to ensure the supercharger parts remain well tuned. I think I recall reading that somewhere, not sure on that, but I am going with that logic anyways.

So the haters did come out. I figured that I would get $hit for going that fast...

Now to placate the haters. I am an adrenaline junkie so the car does regularly see triple digits, just not for extended periods.

The point of the 90+ was that it was on what is normally a parking lot and it went on for 8 - 10 miles.

Where? Over on the MINI forum, a bunch of old ladies would have petitioned the moderator to have you thrown off the forum.

Oddly, way back in the day, it was like this on the myg37 forum.

I have to honest, this morning on the drive in to work I passed two MINIs (yes only two), one being of those bloated country clubhouse things, and I did look to see if there was an elderly woman judging me as I sped past her in my GLA (still snow here).

In full disclosure, my wife, nay I say an older lady, adores those little cars. I shall deny ever writing this should this get out.

Mind you, I wasn't disparaging the car (bloated versions excluded). A fully tuned and modded MINI is second only to an F-Type.

Nor was I disparaging the car.

I am certain I (as in my wife) will end up with one once her current car is a bit longer in the tooth. I am certain it will be a blast to drive with the right configuration.

I was more having fun with the idea of ye olde ladies driving them and judging my reckless behavior.

Not that odd. I was on that forum too. G37/G35 drivers have a bad reputation and so the community goes WAY THE HELL OVERBOARD to try to fight it.

Well, not to worry. I keep mine under 171MPH at all times.
