Default Escort Max Radar Detector Hardwire Install

Had the new Escort Radar Max installed week before last and someone asked on another thread how it came out...

...it came out great.

Had the Live version of the direct wire cord installed, so my radar communicates with my cell phone and alerts me to live police/radar/speed traps that other users can report (manually or automatically).

I have had almost every Escort Radar unit that they have made in the last 10 years installed across my stable of cars and I like this one the most.

For those that do not know, the Escort Live system uses an app installed and running in the background of your phone to update you of other users in your area (with the same system installed) who stumble across police, speed trap, mobile radar, etc...

The radar itself will get an update from the phone and display on the color read out that there is 'live police spotted' and tell you approximately how far it is away. It works great. I wont sell you on the radar detector because some people swear by their brand and don't like Escort.

HAving said that.

I had it hard wired to an accessory line in the center console and had the mute/mark button installed by my right knee. It looks great and works even better.

I can't comment accurately on range and detection yet as I have only had it a little over a week... I can say that being able to adjust all the settings immediately from my phone (Very easily I might add), makes adjusting it to the settings I want ideal.

It's connected to one of the 'accessory' wires underneath the center console... on the right. I didn't personally install this one as my XJ took a tech two hours to find a good terminal to connect it to.

Be careful. One of the wires looked like an accessory but it was the AC. So when I turned the AC off, the radar went off. Had to take it back.

Wish I could help more. I'll see if I can pull the side panel off and snap a pic when I go out in a little bit. No promises though.

Good to know. I have the same radar detector and was wondering about hardwiring it up through the mirror like you did. I hate that wire dangling down to the 12V port.

Has anyone figured out which wire it is?
Alternatively, would a Jaguar dealer refuse to install a detector n the grounds that it would invalidate the warranty?

I wonder if you had the In Control app if the radar notice would show up on the car display. Now that would be pretty neat. Unfortunately for me, my vehicle is past the point of change in the production process.

search for “mirror tap hardwire for radar” thread and the information is there.
ground is black
switched power is blue/ grey wire

Although a little bit tricker than that as my socket had multiple green grey wires and no grey/blue and couldn’t find the right one for a while. . Tracking the wires further up the loom and away from the socket show the grey/blue positive wire actually changed colour(? For heat????) to grey/ green by the time it go to the socket so no wonder I couldn’t find it. See the below photo to see what I mean. It is actually a lot fatter than the other wires. This also mean it is a lot tighter when fitting your wiretap as less room so use a big sewing needle to create room for your wiretap. I made my own using the copper core from standard tv antenna wire.Second photo shows the pin placement in the socket If that helps

Starts blue/grey but changes colour!!

I soldered some stainless steel safety wire (0.032") to do the same. As for the color change, I've measured the leading edge of the panoramic roof shade at over 175F in the summer. Things get hot up there when the car is in the sun.
