Default Extended Warranty and Soft Top

Hi Guys, I've searched and read quite a few posts on the feedback from members on whether or not extended warranty is worth it. However, I did not find any information on where to get it cheapest for those wanting to get one.

I checked with the dealer in Scottsdale, AZ, and they quoted me $9k for 5 years 100k miles extension and $7k for 3 years 50k miles extension. I figured some dealers will quote high numbers, but never thought it'd be this ridiculous.

Also, they are changing my soft top due to some wear marks that appeared on both sides of the glass. They tell me it is a $20-25k job. While I'm not sure if that $ estimate is right, but d@ng if it is true. What started worrying me is that the car is at the dealer for 2 weeks now [almost 8 days after the top was replaced] since they are having issues with it operating correctly. I was told even though they are fixing it now, once the warranty expires, it will not be covered.

So now, I am worried. I was going to go the tune/pulley route after the warranty expires on Dec 18, but want to have some peace of mind with an extended warranty.

- Can you please advise where would be the best place to buy manufacturers warranty?
- Do you have experience buying from certain dealers who are good on pricing?

I know each dealer will quote differently, and I want to find the right one. I know this personally as I purchased an extended warranty on my ML550 years ago from TX instead of my dealer in IL because they were cheaper by thousands for the same warranty.

Please advise.

Thanks.

A

I bought 2 years at dealer from private company for $3600 less a 10% special. 14 months later have yet to use it!

Yeah, warranties are a bit of a dilemma, you buy them sort-of hoping you don't need them, but then wish you did so you can win!

The estimate of $25K USD is unbelievable because an OEM outer top costs just $4500 to $5000 from a Jaguar dealer in Canada (and those figures are in Canadian $). Assuming a similar price in the US (but it would likely be 25% cheaper given the exchange rate), that would mean that installing the cover over the top frame would cost $20,000 USD. Simply not possible. The entire roof assembly, including frame and headliner, is about $12,000...

Over the years, I have found AAA to offer the best deals on good extended warranties.

Unfortunately AAA doesn’t provide extended warranty for Jaguar. At least that is the information they shared with me.

I bought a 2014 V6S Convertible, 5,700 miles, out of warranty, in May 2018.
I searched the internet and was able to buy a +5 year +50,000 mile extended warranty for around $4,000.
$100 deductible.
Bumper to Bumper manufacture coverage.
Everything covered except typical consumer items (tires, brakes, oil changes/filters, belts, batteries, wipers, etc.)
Includes towing to a jaguar dealer nationwide.

Who is offering that policy?

My 2014 V6S only had 5,700 miles and a clean Carfax history.
I may have received a better deal because of the low miles.
Prior owner purchased new, owns several new car dealerships, and this car was one of several sport and luxury cars in her stable. I looked for 18 months for the car with the options I wanted (all of them) (couldn't afford a new order).
Found 1 in Miami - then Hurricane Irma!
Found 1 in Houston - then Harvey hit!
Found 1 in Bonita Springs, FL - sold day before my test drive.
Found 1 in Sarasota, FL - Couldn't agree on Price.
Found mine in Fishers, IN - about 40 miles from my home!
My persistence paid off, got a good deal an a well maintained like new car, couldn't be happier!

Thank you! I will give them a call.

Update on car: My car should be ready for pick up today/tomorrow. I was told they had to replace the whole assembly, not just the soft top, since they couldn't figure out what was causing it from closing properly after they changed the top.
