How can you call the F type brakes cheap? Those beautiful factory trash can lid rotors weigh a about 30 lbs each! And my 2.5 ton pickup truck stops just fine with the same time tested caliper design...

Well, Chawumba, because they are cheap by comparison to fixed caliper designs. Which is why floating calipers are std equipment for most normal cars and trucks, but not generally on 6 figure sports cars were the extra performance capability is warranted - if not always utilized.

Sorry, forgot the sarc tag...

I will say after upgrading to the suncut rotors, I get compliments on the brakes now and they do seem to work about as well as those on my cars with opposing pistons.

Those rotors do look nice! Proper tires too I see!

Yes, JLR cheaped out on the F-Type brakes, they are simply from the parts bin of JLR brakes going back many years now. And that's all F-Type brakes including the CCM as even they were used on other Jags before the F-Type such as the XKR-S GT.

More on fpace brakes. Today I noticed they are same as those on RR sport SC. Cars were side by side. Rear rotors are as big as front rotors. They are br

embo.

A floating caliper on such a car is indeed laughable. Oh well.

Even the calipers on my mountain bike aren’t floating.

More is always better, but I yet to see anyone presenting a claim that these much maligned brakes are in any way deficient. The car stops great, they don't tend to fade, and they don't tend to warp disks. I can still overwhelm traction of my MP4S tires with linear line braking and smooth application. It is all around decent system no matter how you look at it.

I have well over 20 hours of track use on these, and they have LASTED. I am still on original pads and disks! What more could one ask of it?

I maligned them more before I changed rotors and pads because they ended up a lot lighter than I expected them to be. Past experience with larger (320mm) sliding yoke calipers had me thinking they were as heavy as anvils, but that was not the case. Still, coming from the motorcycle world where opposed piston calipers are de rigueur I hoped for better.

I only had fade once, and that was due to overenthusiastic use at the end of bedding in the pads with the snazzy two-piece rotors. It was a little disconcerting because I really did need to make that corner, but I had plenty of margin.

I guess I'm an elitist with a brake fetish. Thankfully, neither is illegal. Not here, anyway, and not yet.
