F Type car article....
What say you. Good or Bad.

I'd say its a fair assessment. I've had many Porsche's, BMW's, and a slew Japanese sports cars. They all have an issue here and there. They mentioned Cayman's, I had an 'S'. Awesome car, but just not enough power until you get into the GT's. Can't abide a premium sports car that can get smoked by a 10yr old mustang, or a kid in a jacked Honda. On track? yes, they don't have a chance, but I spend most of my time on the street. The C6/C7/C8 Corvettes are world class performers, it's great to see so many of them every single day... Same with BMW's, mine's white with black wheels, just like the other 342666 BMW's in my city....
I've seen 4 Jag F Type's in my months of shopping/owning. You see more Ferrari's, Lambo's, McLaren's at Cars & Coffee than Jags. Car & Driver called them 'Rolling Kinetic Art', everyone feels the exhaust note is intoxicating. So yea, as a enthusiast, I'll deal with any issues. Its a fair trade for the exclusivity, beauty & performance. Cost of ownership can be steep, as it is with all premium sports cars, you should know this going in.

Unless you're in it for the long haul, it's going to be a while before prices go back up [unless the FED unleashes another tsunami of funny money (which is quite possible)]. I'd say we're looking at the mid 30's until much of the financial non-sense that went on over the past decades is rooted-out. You can see what's happening in the CRE markets and that will be followed by the residential market as baby boomers give up their bloated McMansions to a market unwilling and unable to afford such waste.
Sports cars are in the same category as watches and jewelry and art...stuff that absolutely nobody needs.

Nice to read that he referred to the manual trans cars as the Holy Grail of F types. I've had my 2017 for coming on 4 years, no burps or hiccups, but I'm not so naive to think that nothing is going to happen. It's a car, it has 90 gazillion yards of wire and 20 gazillion electronic contraptions waiting for that opportune time to wreak havoc. I'm hoping I got a 'special' one, built on the right day, by the right robots and humans, much like my 69 E that has lasted in my care for 35 years. I just feel fortunate that I found the F that found me as well. And like the E, I never get tired of looking at it, because yes, this car is art!

They sure are pretty.

No? The 8-speed AT shifts faster and gives even the 4-cylinder P300 a quicker 0-60 time than a 340hp V6 with stick, per JLR.
The 8AT performs better than the 6MT in any measure that can be done with a stopwatch, but I'm not that interested in 0-60 times. Sure, they're a standard measure, but don't mean much in my daily driving or my driving pleasure.

I'd say the article is pretty accurate. The F-Type is so loved because it is a spectacular 'real world' sports car. They are quite simply a blast to drive. I have a 2017 V6s and I need to make no excuses for the car. It is plenty fast with a top speed over 170mph, agile, ultra responsive, has a fantastic transmission with a loud exhaust bark when desired and it is very comfortable. The F-Type is among the last of the fire breathing sports cars.
If one is a true driving enthusiast, the F-Type is unquestionably in the top tier of daily drivers.

I enjoy spirited driving and have owned and driven many manual-transmission cars but I now own an 8-speed AT F-Type that I'd never trade for a stick. I get the appeal of clutch-shift driving but my left knee appreciates that I've grown out of needing that particular sense of control. I still have paddles when I want to hold a gear longer or downshift earlier. I prefer not being a slave to clutch and stick. ATs are definitely liberating which is why they've made stick increasingly obsolete, right up to F1.
Having a manual mustang which I love and an auto F Type which I love, my 2 bobs' worth is that manuals are fun to drive at normal speeds (around town), heaps of fun to drive hard, and horrible to drive when traffic is banked up. The auto F type is fine to drive at normal speeds, heaps of fun to drive hard, and fine to drive when traffic is banked up. My holy grail would be a RWD v8 manual f type (and personally I wouldnt give a rat's **** that the auto was quicker) though the heavyweight mustang has its own charm and is handy for carting stuff.
@Ramart I get that some people appreciate the comfort of an AT. I'm 42 and all my cars have been manual. Perhaps I might change my mind in the future but I'm glad I can enjoy such an excellent car with a stick shifter on curvy roads with little to no traffic which is where mine lives. If I lived in a congested area, I probably would not bother buying a sports car.
I don't know about MT becoming obsolete though. At least not in Europe. Porsche, Aston and other premium brands are doing a good job keeping it alive with their recent releases and there seems to be a renewed interest in MT from the younger generations.

Article is accurate and pretty even in tone, so to me it is a good one to share...paints a realistic picture save the car is frankly really reliable save the cooling pipes and the a few other trivial things.
On the grail manual transmission..... VAP tuned zf8hp70 converts shifting to sublime/wonderful.
I think for my world (congestion/traffic jams) the zf8hp70 is optimal - tuned it is un-xxxxxxx-believably fast. I like it....think PDK with a smooth launch.
