I would never drill holes or use sticky anything on dash, that hurts my heart. I'm also not into mounting things on vents that could break the vents or be wobbly. So I solved the problem another way. This is all kind of temporary until I'm sure it's working, but so far with a week of driving around it's going pretty well. Still BETA status though, early prototype.
For now I am just using some velcro wire straps, but since that's working I'm making a permanent one out of nylon webbing and heavier velcro.
Then I designed and printed this bracket to sit on the console spar. The ball joint on it fits into this phone mount's ball socket.
Still looks like a beta with this rough print and the temporary velcro. But it doesn't leave any marks on the leather at all, can be removed easily with one velcro strap, and faces me well enough in the driver seat to unlock my phone with my face.
This phone mount is pretty great and I think fits the Jag very well, too, with its automatic arms that grip the phone and the elegant little motorized release when you touch the silver side buttons. I think with a nice plastic part and the right velcro strap, it could be pretty stylish.
Working on the velcro strap now, will update when I have something nice!
Designed for LHD, but if anyone's interested I could flip the design for RHD cars easily enough.
Nice work. Looks great and I really like the mount you designed. Must more professional than what I bought off etsy. Would you consider creating one for me for a price?
Incase others have an iPhone 12 with the Magsafe charging/mounting capability, this is what I threw into my F type.
I recently ordered a dash pad mat which is meant to hold your phone. I do not plan on using it for my phone though. My suction cup mounted radar detector has a bad habit of falling off the windshield. I don't want it marking up the dash, so this pad is going under it. I could not resist getting this since it has the Jaguar logo on it. I ordered from Aliexpress. I will post a follow-up once it arrives.

I purchased the Pro Clip phone holder and really like it. I used the console mount with the magnetic holder. I found that if I placed the metal plate towards the bottom of the phone case, it does not interfere with the wireless charging in my desktop cradle.
Cant you just make it wrap over the top and do away with the velcro? Kind of like the rendering below.
I tried that at first but in order to not slide down the rail it needs to be really tight, and I didn't want to leave marks in the leather. Maybe if I could put a felt lining on it or something?
Place a piece silicone sheet on the inside of the clip. And just before you put it in place, mist it with isopropyl alcohol which should make the surface slippery and easy to pull over. Once in place and the Alcohol evaporates the silicone should keep it from sliding.
You could also try nano gel tape says it will not leave a residue if removed.

For the longest time I was just using a suction cup mount just below the center cents. Finally got around to doing it right. Lots of test fitting and shaping but I'm happy with the way it turned out.
It blocks a couple of buttons I have never used so no loss.
.
I would rate it 3/5. It holds surprisingly well, but it rattles a lot. I have tried to fix it, but it is one part that cannot be fixed so it just have to be a bit noisy on rough roads and bumps.
I have gone to this magsafe mount for all if my vehicles and switched to mag safecase for my android that hold solid as a rock. Solid aluminum construction and they articulates in everyway imaginable, very inexpensive. Best phone mount I have ever used. https://a.co/d/7XY35Ix

Basically a Pro Fit type mount. I like it.
I’m still rockin a heavily modified ProClip base with the new-ish Scocshe Qi2 MagicMount Charge.
