No adhesives in that area, only snap tabs. Valence or bumper could have been tapped by another car.
Oh, I see. Hmm, there's no signs of any marks or scratches on the bumper, though if a car slowly pressed on it, that could have broken the snap tabs. We'll see what the dealer says

Yeah, the picture is right after I did a car wash. Typically, the area around the tailpipes has a bit of black soot on it. I assumed it's pretty normal, though, since it sounds like most other people see the same thing on this car.

I think so. When I still had the two trumpet exhaust tips, they were always sooting up quickly. I never noticed it much on the rear valence itself, as that is matte black.
That looks like two pieces, gloss black and body color, where there is only one on mine, all gloss black. I suspect physical damage, as has been suggested, or a possible workmanship defect.

I believe the valence is slightly different on newer vehicles. One piece on ours and two piece on the newer ones.

Of course I had to look at mine and it's one piece matte black.

The V6 tubes will get hot enough to melt the rear valence if the car is dyno’d (full throttle load) with insufficient airflow at the rear of the car.
Thanks for the info, but: it hasn't ever been dyne's, neither racetrack or similar things. Just normal roads and for the time being never flat out....
Furthermore, I'm living in Germany under not very hot climate conditions, so, I was really surprised when I saw this.
If this may happen under normal operating conditions, it's a construction issue...
But we'll see the local jag dealer's opinion into this next mondän...
Yep, when I dynoed mine some three years ago now it was running over-hot (due to heat soak) with no extraction fan at the back that I can recall and it didn't melt or char anything.
Looking at those pics from Cloudsurfer479 I am seeing the opposite - instead of lots of black soot on the insides of the exhaust tips that you get when it is running rich I see very clean maybe light greyish deposits.
Tells me it has been running way too lean and therefore way too hot, and if it has been running way lean something (I know not what) must be causing it.
