Default F-Type S-BDE, Summer, Autobahn ...

Hi All,

Tried to reach Vmax on the Autobahn last week, speedo said 272 km/h, but GPS says 264 km/h.

Monday is a holiday here (NL), might go for another blast!

Cheers
Stu

If it's a British Design Edition, "S" can only mean V6. 272 is about all the OEM tune will allow him to do (speed limited). A VAP tune would resolve that bottleneck.

What else comes with a VAP tune? The car hardly needs more horses. Unlikely to push must past the 270 even on the Autobahn, too much traffic.

But I'm interested to know what else they do.

Cheers

With just their $995 tune, you can bump the power safely to 416hp and can ask for the speed limiter to be bumped up. I believe 320 is maximum programmable limit. This power is not just a claim, but verified independently on a dyno.

I can't imagine a road where people drive in the right lane.

I'm impressed with the way other drivers consistently moved over to the right hand (slow) lane when they saw the OP coming. I wonder if he needed to flash his headlights at some of them?
This (moving over into the slow lane to let a faster driver past) simply never happens here in South Australia, instead they dawdle along in the "fast" lane at 10 km/h below the pitiful 110 km/h speed limit, either completely oblivious to traffic approaching from behind or deliberately trying to block.
If I tried for V-Max on one of the freeways here I would crash and burn very quickly!

Drivers are generally well behaved on the German Autobahn. When you don't have a speed limit, you need to pay attention to the large projectiles coming toward you at 17O+ mph from the rear. It's more a matter of survival than of good manners.

Cool video and man your living the dream. Here in the states we'd be locked under the jail and be facing multiple fines and possible prison time. Thanks for sharing!

Nice to drive where people actually yield the right of way...ie move right to allow you to pass...

Also, its a big crime - maybe a felony - to pass on the right on the Autobahn. The fast guys are going to stay in their lane - its the slow traffic's job to get out of the way.

I was driving across Frankfurt at 6 pm on a Friday night, just after sunset in 1985 in a Porsche 928. We were cruising at 125 mph. I told my passenger that we'd have to slow down a bunch. I was patient - no flashing of lights, no left turn signal - and every time I started to get close to someone, they'd signal and move over. I never slowed below 125 all the way through Frankfurt.

The down side is that most of the Autobahn is two lane. Trucks are limited to the right lane and 100 kph (62 mph). Of course, if you drive a car that goes 63 mph, you're going to pass that truck - even if it takes half an hour to get past! This is usually where someone else doing 150 mph+ gets their brake test ;-) as the road is blocked at what seems like walking speed...

Germans learn how to drive, not how to nudge land barges in the right direction...

If only we could carry that same system over here in the states. Instead we have drivers in the far left lane doing 60mph on a 65mph five-lane wide freeway.
