Default F type sapphire silver

Hi Everyone,

First post for me - I have an F type coupe on order but haven't yet picked the colour. For the first time in my life I'm struggling to pick a colour for a car. Perhaps its because its my first new one!

Having always gone for grey cars, i want something different so am deciding between the sapphire blue and the silver, maybe the white. One particular combo I'm thinking of is the sapphire blue with the black pack and black wheels. Does anyone have this combination that they could post please?

Thanks
Bob

My personal faves in no particular order:

BRG/tan
IRR/white
sapphire/london tan (darker brown)
white/red

I am not a fan of all black interior, at least get contrast stitching/belts.

Black color really swirls easily, impossible to keep clean, and gets very hot in the sun. Too impractical IMO.

White color masks sculpted lines and clashes with about everything (if you care to match car to clothing). To me, it also goes against masculine image of the car.

Yet to see purple in person, but can't imagine you'd be able to match interior to it.

In every other color the car looks gorgeous.

Also make sure to order bigger brakes, as you will need them with this car.

Thanks guys,

Does anyone have a picture of the dark sapphire but with black wheels please? Long shot maybe...I don't know if that's a popular combo

Excellent thanks mshedden, your internet skills are clearly better than mine! Love the blue but from those pics I think perhaps I prefer silver wheels with the blue

I think I do too, and heck its less money as well - my fav is this one - the turbine wheels look great with it imho, and you can get them in the UK, we can't get them any more here in the US for who knows what reason.

Check out mshedden's pic #9. The black/diamond turned Gyrodynes offer just the right amount silver flash to offset the otherwise very dark grey wheel. Looks particularly good on the blue and green F-Types.

I agree, the Gyrodynes look great. Although it depends on the colour i pick, they're my #1 wheel. However I am getting the V6 and they're not an option on the V6, only the V8. Does anyone please know - can they be retrofitted ok to the V6?

I have a rhodium silver with black pack, black interior with red stitch, and black top. The silver really pops and has a slight hint of blue in the metallic. I also have the optional gyrodyne wheels.

You can definately fit them, though buying from Jag is very expensive - they do show up on Ebay from time to time tho. I was under the impression you could get any wheel on a UK build, maybe that changed? (Edit - I looked - the gyrodynes are literally the ONLY wheel you cannot get on the V6 in the UK (if the configurator is accurate) - you might want to question that - configurator is not 100% by any means)

Old thread, the same problem - silver vs dark blue, my take. I wanted dark blue coupe (sapphire blue / loire blue). After investigating A LOT I added silver and white to the mix. I am more inclined to Rhodium Silver instead, let me brainstorm

- I loved the "aristocratic" look of dark blue with chrome, looked very elegant and classy to me. However, As you list thru photos, and when I saw it in the real light, this color IMHO need "just right" conditions to pop-out. Mostly it looks too dark to me, hides the curves of the car. But there is one big problem - the back. To me, the best angle of the F-type is that "drop like" back of the car, and in dark blue (or black, or dark gray), this detail is non-existent. The black diffuser has not enough contrast to the dark paint, and the back of the car looks heavy TO ME.

- So I investigated lighter colours, and as I was never a fan of silver cars (seems boring to me), almost everytime I see sapphire silver f-type it looks good. It looks good on basicaly every lighting conditions (where dark looks like a smudge and white is overexposed), the lines show incredibly well (the best with Italian Red I think), and simply there is something with silver on the coupe that looks right to me.

- With silver, it is incredible how the car shape and small diffrences in shades are important. For example Jaguar XJ220 looks like an spaceship in silver, and I saw it in dark blue and I was thinking "what the hell", this is not right. Then you see silver on family hatchback and is boring as life could be, and then you see McLaren SLR in silver and your jaw will drop. Also Astons are great in silver, saw a DB9 in dark blue and looked dull.

This is what I am talking about:
Dark blue, with great lighting and no drop-like back:

Silver - looks like an UFO to me, you will not find any car with back like that on the road.

- now the second best thing on F-type to me is the side-window profle. In black back, as I like the sportiness too, in black pack this shape is dulled I think. I think that the chrome pops-out this great coupe shape, so i wanted chrome. But this chrome looks better on dark colours IMHO, so basically here I see it as a trade-off.

- wheels are important too to the overall looks. I don't want black, because they dissapear in shadows and darker enviroment. Silver rims on dark blue (or any dark colour) are stunning. Silver on silver not soo eye catching. I see this as a trade-off too.

- In 2020 there is a new blue called Bluefire blue and that looks much better to me than dark sapphire. But sadly, this colour is not available to us. Also, I once saw a SVR in some sort of SVR-only silver/gray, that was a tad darker than sapphire silver and looked great to me, I kept the silver properties and added more contrast to the chrome and silver rims.

- there is also the "mid"gray (lunar/ammonite/whatever) which I did not see in person yet. Mathematically it should be the best compromise, but on photos it seem to me a little "old-fashioned" but I might be wrong.

I agree 100%. Wanted to like Loire Blue for the XE, but it’s black too much of the time, so ended up with Ammonite/Corris Grey. Caesium was too garish.

The vast majority of my past sports cars were various shades of bright silver. This time I went with Ammonite for many of the same reasons you have listed and am very pleased with the compromise between light and dark colors.
As an extra bonus, this color does not show dirt as much as other colors, especially dust from sitting in the garage. I don't feel the compulsion to wash her if she sits for a week.
However if I was to buy another one, it would be Firestand, just for the wow factor.

You can go to the Jaguar website and select the Build Your Own feature. Then you can select the exterior color, type/color of the wheels and calipers, with or without the black pack and then click on View Gallery to see what the car will look like from 8 different angles. Save the photos in a desktop folder.

I have done this with several different exterior colors and wheels/trim options and a couple of different interior colors and leather packages. I keep going back and forth among them trying to make a decision as I am close to placing my order with the factory.

I have owned several sports cars in sliver and I agree, it almost always looks good. But this time I am leaning towards BRG with the tan leather. I thought I wanted Santorini Black until I saw good photos and I don't like the metallic, I would have preferred just a good gloss black. I really like the Firenze Red with tan leather, bright wheels and chrome trim but am worried that color may draw unwanted attention.

Anyway, I realize that seeing the cars in person and under differing lighting conditions is really the best way to decide, but these cars are not exactly common and JLR has done a pretty good job with their website design to give you something to look at to help make a choice.

My XF was gloss black, no metallic. Swirl city. Would wrap the entire car in film. This car draws attention in any color, so I wouldn't let that deter you. We should get a thread started on photos of cars with SVO special colors. Curious how many forum members own one with SVO paint. I would consider it if I was keeping the car depending on how they look. The BRG and Balmoral blue look like they have alot of depth.

I just red a interview with Ian Callum, and on a question "what you wish F-type would have" he answered "more colour options". So it is not just us who is struggling with this.

I count 27 different colors available on the 2021 models. 2 solid, 8 metallic, 2 Premium Metallic, 14 SVO Premium Palette and 1 Special Effect. They can add a substantial premium to the cost depending upon your choice and I would be scared to death that many of them would be about impossible to match should you need a touch up or minor damage repair.

I'm good with the choices in Metallic for a $710 extra charge.
