F-Type Sound
As I mentioned in another post, I’m currently looking for an F-Type. Now, in another forum, I read something about the exhaust sound. Until model year 2018, Jaguar didn’t have a GPF (OPF), but I came across a claim that starting in 2017 Jaguar introduced a software update that toned down or “muted” the exhaust sound.
Here’s a list of all the models ChatGPT gave me.
2014
F-Type (3,0 V6, ~340 PS) (US News Autos) F-Type S (3,0 V6, ~380 PS) (MotorTrend) F-Type V8 S (5,0 V8, ~495 PS) (autoweb.com)
2018
F-Type 296HP (2,0 L 4-Zylinder) (media.jaguar.com) F-Type 340HP (3,0 V6 Basis) (Cars.com) F-Type 380HP / F-Type S (3,0 V6 S) (Cars.com) F-Type 400 Sport Variante (3,0 V6 mit 400 PS) (media.jaguar.com) F-Type R (5,0 V8, ~550 PS) (Cars.com) F-Type SVR (5,0 V8, ~575 PS) (Cars.com) R-Dynamic
Is that actually true? Or what exactly should I look out for regarding the sound?
Right now, I’m leaning slightly toward the V6 over the V8. However, this topic about the sound is making me a bit uneasy. Ideally, I’d like a 2017 or 2018 model because of the improved interior options and possibly AWD. But if the sound is noticeably different or worse compared to, say, a 2014 model, I might have to rethink my choice.

My MY18 (built March 2017) had the first of the "quietening" software updates and the only change it made was to open the valves at 1500 rpm in non-dynamic mode when I operated the exhaust switch - it used to open them at tickover, like dynamic mod did (and still does). I believe there were subsequent updates, but mine never had them. A side=effect of the update was that all the configurable dynamic settings were defaulted to "comfort", but I reset them and the car is as noisy as it ever was.
Your best bet is to test drive the ones you like - engage dynamic and see how it sounds!

What can you tell me about the interior? Did your model get an update?
The interior is great - I haven't studied the earlier cars so can't really comment on the improvements made in MY18 but I think the seats were made a bit thinner and I think the adjustable side bolsters were deleted (the round knob on the seat control panel), but are very comfortable after (and during!) a long drive. Early MY18s have the smaller 8" screen with physical buttons down each side but later in the production run they switched to a 10" screen without physical buttons so everything has to be done by touchscreen. I'm an analogue guy so love my physical buttons! The 10" touchscreen is CP and AA compatible if that's your thing, the 8" screen isn't.
