Aston Martin just released pics of the Vanquish Zagato concept: looks like a cross between a Camaro and an F-Type. The F-Type retains a serious edge in the looks department. Let's hope they don't screw it up with the 18MY.

Wow. There are so many similarities. I like the car, but for the price will stick with the F-Type. Thank you for the interesting article.

 

Another unflattering comparison for the Zagato would be the similar roof/window line as the GT-R.

 

Clearly the case of: a horse designed by committee = camel.

To be fair, the Aston Martin and F-Type are something akin to "kissing cousins" as they share much of the same design heritage and even the same designer in Ian Callum.

I spent quite a bit of time at my dealer early last year - who in addition to JLR also sells Aston Martin - walking many circles around both the Vantage and Vanquish they had in the showroom, then ten steps away the F-type... and the similarity in so many of the prominent lines was astoundingly uncanny.

 

Fortunately for his own reputation, Ian doesn't seem to have anything to do with this atrocity.

 

I think it actually looks great. I'd certainly be happy to own one. F Type comparisons are a little off IMHO as our cars borrowed a lot from AM design in the first place.

 

The Aston Martin V12 Zagato though... that was a masterpiece...

 

It's probably worth noting that the entire design language of the current Aston range comes from the DB7 that came out in 1994. Ironically, that design (also from Ian Callum) was originally put forth by Jaguar as one of the original attempts at a F-Type that was derived from the XJS. Ford cancelled that car and moved the design over to Aston due to the fact that they desperately needed a new product...


So, the entire Aston design language is actually just a gift from Jaguar!

 

The two companies have certainly shared far too much common heritage for the similarities not to exist. While this has elements I don't like, the nod to the F-Type's haunches is interesting still to me. Its kind of like the two sisters, one who is a knockout and one that has a "butter face".

Aston Martin has the same British DNA - I'm sure any of us would be happy to have one.

A couple of Maseratis live in my town: Quattro portes and coupes. Next to the F-Type they are half-baked and unfinished. The F-Type is iconically classy and sexy. Maybe I'm prejudiced but....

 

The aston to me looks like theyve taken an f type and then tried to make it different, bit like a kid adding bits on small cars to try to make them look sportier

for me its a huge fail, the rear end and side look awful, seem to have forgotten the old adage Less is Best.

 

Have you seen a Vanquish or an F12 in person? I love my F type but I'm realistic.

 

I have a '12 Maser GT GranCabrio. To me, it's the only car that meets or exceeds the F-Type's looks. The MC Sportline GT's are even more stunning. The exhaust sounds are just incredible and to me, surpasses my R's in tone and quality.
