Oh man...don't know how I'd feel if my car was on that ship!

Wow. I wonder what will happen to those cars. Will it still be delivered as "new" or flagged as damaged. Bad luck for JRL.

With the list that ship exhibits, I'm guessing most, if not all will be total write-offs. Whlle the vehicles are tethered to the deck, some likely broke loose, and the rest will have significant body, supension, and chassis damage. They are tranported within inches of each other.

If the ship can be righted and recovered, there will be plenty of available engines, transmissions, and other spare parts available.

They ran it aground on purpose:

The stuff is insured for this sort of thing - so more just a supply issue.

But apparently to only keep it from flipping entirely and sinking, as it had already begun listing. It's an ancient mariner's technique as perhaps the only last-ditch chance to save a sinking ship.

I wonder what effect this will have on 2016 orders. Perhaps none.

Longer wait if those were sold cars (which is likely when exporting to Europe).

I don't have an FT subscription, would you mind posting the article.

I'm guessing there will be some canceled 2015 orders then. I wouldn't have the patience to wait another 3-4 months after having already waited 3-4 months.

According to reports, those JLRs were headed to Germany and weren't likely U.S. spec vehicles.

They mentioned the boat was only partially full on its way to Germany and then on to the Middle East. All the industrial equipment, LRs and MINIs were specifically reported to be on their way to the M.E. I suspect the F-Types were also headed to the Middle East and the stopover in Germany was to pick up some BMWs and maybe some MBs.

Actually it was 1,200 Jaguars and Land Rovers along with 65 Minis, a Rolls-Royce Wraith and 105 JCBs.

wow! That's a lot of JRL. Those new Range Rover Sports are selling like hot cakes with crazy markups. Big lost for JRL. Insurance will pay but I'm guessing it'll make a lot of customers jump to another brand.
