Default First For Me (Sorry, Not A New Car)

Rolled into town this morning, pulled up in front of my wife's office to drop her off, and put F-Type in "P", from "S" mode (Dynamic off), and car shut off. This was the second time that that's happened - first was yesterday- and I don't think in the 7 months I've owned it it's ever happened before. Am I missing something?

Best regards and thanks!
Jay

If you have eco-mode engaged in the dynamic-off mode, my experience is that the car will turn itself off after putting the car in "Park".

This car can be too smart for itself. It does thing if you take a seat belt off or open a door. It's all in the manual, but I don't remember exactly when it does what. It can put the car in park, apply the parking brake, and even shut the car off.

if push the gear selector over to sport, but the car is not in dynamic, eco mode is "still active." It will not turn the engine off while you have the gear selector in sport if you're at a stoplight for instance, but by putting the car in park it goes back to normal drive mode again and engages eco mode.

So if you're parked and the car doesn't need the engine running for climate control it will enter eco mode. if you are parked and the engine is off because of eco mode the engine it will turn off when you release the seat belt.

Jay,

I'd never seen that before in sport even though the eco light stays on, but I suspected it had something to do with the paddles, so I experimented this morning. Here's what I found:

1) In SPORT, if you never use the paddles or manual shift, it stays in automatic, and eco-mode will shut the engine down at both stop lights and when put in park.

2) In SPORT, if you use the paddles or shift just ONCE, none of the above will happen as long as it stays in SPORT.

I'd never seen it before because I'd never used SPORT mode without manual shifting, so I'm guessing you didn't this morning.

Who's on first, What's on second....

Thanks Clay, and everyone. I'm a little rushed for a meeting (lunch) but I can tell you this:

Prior to last week's thread about the car's ECU and "learning good or bad habits" I've not used Dynamic unless I know I can drive dynamically (That's about to change, back, as I'm willing to take my chances and since I love driving in Dynamic all the time; that and there's hardly ever all that much traffic here in the State of Maine) and I'm still using Sport (never "D") and always use the paddles and always disengage ECO. So when I have time I will re-read all your posts and see what's what. But not before lunch!

Thanks everyone.
Jay

Mine shuts down too if I put it in park even when coming from sport and manual shifting. Hit the P button, shifter goes to the neutral position and car shuts down.

Sorry guys, I'm just not sharp enough to comprehend and maintain all of this. All I'll need (or want) to know is:
1. Is the ECO button On/Off?
2. Is the tranny in neutral?

I'm with you Lance!

1) ECO was OFF!
2) Was in "S", pressed "P", engine went off (without pressing "beating heart" Starter).

Thanks all. On drive home tonight I will confirm - confirm that ECO was off (am 99.9% sure it was and with Dynamic I don't have to think about that) - but it did strike me as odd that this happened two days in a row (and not once before). In any event, it's back to Dynamic for me.

Did you happen to take your seat belt off? (and / or open a door?)

Good question. Excellent question in fact. I THINK I still had my seat belt on and the door was still closed. I think therefore I am. Unsure. Truth is I am 99.9% certain seat belt on and door closed (and why I was surprised yesterday when this happened - for the first time - and, again, today). I would say the next time it happens I will know for sure what's what but, as I mentioned earlier, I'm gonna get back to being in Dynamic mode 99.9% of the time (and would like to think what happened won't happen again). While I wasn't at a light or stop sign when the engine died, it obviously made me take notice and make note of it here on the Forum.

Thanks TXJagR and thanks all.

Default Drive home...

Merely to attempt to emulate what happened this morning, drove home in "S", using paddle shifters the entire [30 mile] way home. When I arrived home, put it into "R" and backed into my garage. Kept foot on brake and pushed "P"...car kept running until I hit the "beating heart". Case closed for the night.

Will try again tomorrow.

You goofed. When you last posted you didn't put into into R first...

This car must have a secret code like the old nintendo game systems. To unlock the secret extra HP you need to move the shifter control... front, front, left, back, front, right, press P, left, left, engage parking brake, shift to R, then depress the accelerator for 10 seconds all while holding the button to open the glove compartment.

Not sure I'm following you TXJagR. This morning I simply rolled up in front of my wife's office - under the same driving "conditions" - and upon pressing "P", with foot on the brake and coming from "S", the car immediately shut off. I'm quite certain seat belt was still on and door was still closed. This evening "R" was engaged simply to back it into my garage. While hardly scientific - I'm not certain what happened but after 7 months of ownership and 2,900 miles, and this never happening before yesterday - curious to say the least. Maybe I'm just crazy???

Dunno.

I was pretty much joking around. Back in the days when the original nintendo gaming systems were popular, the gaming companies put in "secret" extras that required you to enter a precise set of button clicks or controller moves. You could gain extra power, extra lives, run faster or higher, etc. etc... Many games had these secret unlocks available. Would be funny to see the F-Type have something secret in the design if you hit the right sequence of buttons.

10 Greatest Video Game Cheats Of All Time
That part I got! I just thought that you were insinuating that my using "R" had something to do with it. I'm thick but not that thick. No matter, we'll see what if anything happens today. Needless to say I'm not concerned, merely curious and it would seem many of us have some, even small, areas of uncertainty. All in the wonderful process of discovery...all behind the wheel of this magnificent automobile.

Cheers!

Default With Apologies To All

Tried to recreate what happened yesterday, and the day before - and couldn't - and all I can think is ECO must have been on (although I could swear it wasn't and I don't have to think about that while in Dynamic which, prior to last week, was all I drove in) and going from "S" into "P" the car shut off and as I was soon to exit the car, mistakenly thought it completely shut down. Sorry to trouble you all.

I think someone here said it best: ECO IS STUPID!

Best regards,
Jay

My suggestion Lance is put it in Dynamic [all the time] and no more confusion. That's what I plan on doing....
