Default First Trip Report

I just completed my first real trip with the F-Type: 2100 miles from Montréal to Corpus Christi, Texas.
The car performed flawlessly. A real pleasure.

I've owned a few "attention getting" cars, including a show winner Porsche 928 with a gold carbon fiber hood. But I have never experienced what this car is getting. I've had a couple of people driving beside my, with the passenger taking pictures. I've had multiples "thumbs up"
Even a girl taking a picture of her girlfriend beside the car in a McDonald's parking lot. Every time I was filling up, someone would ask about the car.

This is my first car, where it does most everything on it's own: wipers, lights etc. Took a while to get used to that, but I like it. I especially like the range of that car. With a cruising speed between 75 and 80, I could do about 425 miles on a tank. None of my other cars could do that.

The surprisingly good fuel economy while cruising down the freeway is a real bonus.

I found my mileage didn't seem to change much when I was cruising at 100mph, which surprised me. Theoretically, of course.

Yeah, I've found my 550PS F-type is more frugal than my previous 510PS XKR (and I drove/drive 'em both like I stole 'em), so I can genuinely claim to have downsized to a more economical car.

After more than a dozen 1000 mile road trips I just love how this car rides and how time seems to melt away on trips. It's so comfortable for me that I rarely care how long I've been in it. My wife usually falls asleep so she doesn't mind it either.

If your wife falls asleep you're really not trying hard enough!
My instruction to passengers is "shut your eyes and scream if you want me to go faster".

Reminds of the saying back in the day:
"Get in sit down shut up and hang on".
As much as I would like to I dare not say that to SWMBO.

The time to be really worried is when the driver says "Hold my beer and watch this ****!!!"

My wife likes luxury car rides and doesn't like the stiff suspension of my F Type. She would complain each time I got on it a little, "Oh Here You Go!" "You're going to get a ticket", etc. She'd say "I don't see what you see in this car". I told her she needs to drive it, then she might understand. She refuses to drive it or even accept her key. I used to drive ultra conservatively when she was a passenger. I finally decided f*** it, I love this car, it's handling, it's acceleration, it's fun. I quit coddling her and she discovered what the grab handle was for. She will still ride with me in the F Type, but she keeps her comments to herself now.

She should talk with my wife. They would have great stories to swap. At least your wife will ride in the car. Don't know if that is good or bad.

@Paul champagne
I thought our trip from the Netherlands to the Algarve .. EU- Longbeach CA-style .. was a challenge... 2600km...

But 2100 miles.. ... you beat me with 30%...

But you don't have to navigate along Antwerp [BE], Lille [FR], Paris [FR] , Bordeaux [FR] and Irun [ES]... all places choking
on traffic congestion.. And then I forgot Utrecht [NL], but there we can escape from by starting after the rush hour...

My wif also isn't keen on my driving. She prefers the Landrover Discovery as it has airsuspension. Maybe if we did a long trip
she gets to like the FT... Next year summer..

Tavira is a small town in the south of Portugal on a 150km beach. It has the charm of old St. Tropez, but not at the same prices !
The hills behind it are ideal for touring, actually the whole area north of the Algarve has fabulous touring roads...
