Default Foam behind center bar of grille, '16 R

So my 16 R has what looks like some kind of black high density impact foam behind the center bar and mesh of the grille, but only on the top half. I might be going nuts, but seems like most of the pictures I've seen of other F's don't have any visible foam top or bottom of the grille. Do most folks just take that out, or has something been put back together wrong on my F?

Mine has it there too. I *think* it's there for as a requirement for low-speed impact protection or something. I believe it's glued in place and can't be easily removed. This doesn't mean you're still not going nuts though

You talking about this piece of foam ?
if so , yes it is part of the low speed impact system and fills the back side of the black grill bumper.
It must be removed if doing a P7 grille.

It's not glued in place. It is held in by snap pins and pulls off easily. I would suggest leaving it in place if you aren't installing the P7 bits. Otherwise, the bumper bar will break more easily.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not really after you.

As others have said, it adds support behind the crossbar. It is only held with 2 plastic clips/fasteners and easily removed if you choose to. It is a bit of a mess behind the bar, so inless there is a reason (like P7 grille), I would suggest leaving it.
