Late last year I started a set of projects on the car -- new exhaust, rear tie-rods, VelocityAP supercharger pulley, and EuroAmp cooling pipes. Given the work I was doing, I had all the slash guards and air deflectors removed from under the car. One of the less pleasant surprises I found was an oil leak.
Once I finished most of the other work, I cleaned the grime off, so that the source of the leak would hopefully present itself.
I figured I'd need to do some driving for it to become apparent. Despite the way it looked, there was not actually a significant amount of fluid leaking. Never made a spot on the garage floor. Felt on the air deflector didn't even have a large amount of crud on it. The car has been run a few time, on the lift, while troubleshooting belt squeak. I was starting to put underbody plastic back last night and noticed new fluid. Just a tiny bit, but it immediately pointed to the culprit.
Transmission cooler lines are leaking at the transition from metal to rubber.
The good news is they don't appear to be hard to replace. The bad news (beyond having to replace them), is that I don't see any way that it can't be a messy job.
@GerbilEngineer Your diligence and completeness to finding the precise cause of your F-Type's problems are inspiring!
As I have stated before, we DIY wrenchers on the forum are indebted to your previous (and ongoing) posts and look forward to your next detailed account for this particular repair. It also helps those who are trying to understand what is going on when their car is in the shop and wrong and expensive solutions are proposed.
I have a MT but will have a good look for any leaks next time I am under the car in a few weeks to change the oil.
