Default Front caliper and pads removal

I appreciate there has been many threads in this topic before.

I had to change the front wheel hub bearing on my 2015 F type R.

In doing so with the front wheel removed I removed the caliper to gain access to the front disc and wheel hub.

To remove the caliper I undid the 2 retaining bolts holding the caliper to the suspension upright. Provided the discs are not too lipped then the caliper just slips off without any fuss. The pads can be removed, the caliper pistons can be pushed back in. This eradicates the need to remove the front clip etc and all the fuss that goes with it.

Secondly, be careful with wheel bearing hubs, there are 2 types, one for rear wheel drive car (as per mine part number c2p24802) and the all wheel drive one.

It seems the all wheel drive hub is freely available as non OEM but the rear wheel drive one is only available as OEM.

The price difference is amazing, £30 for all wheel drive and £300 for rear wheel drive.

Regards

Simon

I once tried to replace the front pads this way, by removing the whole caliper bracket and caliper assembly as one piece by taking out the bracket bolts (15 mm IIRC), for the same reason as you - to avoid having to refit those pesky anti-rattle clips.
But it was a no go for me, no way in this Universe were the brake pads coming out let alone the new ones going in with the caliper still bolted to the bracket (ie via the caliper slide pins), the mounting springs on the backs of the pads simply stuck out way too far.
So I'm keen to learn how you managed to get the old pads out and the new pads in, there must be a trick I'm not seeing!
