In the UK it often pays to change companies every year - renewals go up so we shop around for better deals. I think all the companies have access to your details, so it's just a game they play to swap customers. They used to offer low prices to new customers, so it was clearly beneficial to change but the government has decreed that existing customers shouldn't be at a disadvantage over new ones, so the companies just put up all their prices.
