Default Ugh paint rock chip!

I've been debating on whether or not get a clear bra put on the car. I didn't know if I was going to keep the car long enough to make it worth it, but today I noticed a couple of paint rock chips on my hood!


Has anyone fixed these sort of rock chips without being noticeable? I'm guessing there has to be some paint put in and some polishing done. Is a good detailer the best person to fix this or will any rock chip repair shop do?

You can try one of those "paint restoration" guys. They're a step above detailers that just do wash/wax. They do paint correction, etc.

Dr. Color Chip is a great product and is super easy to use.

I had the same issues..., and being a dark car with white chips, I was getting at least one chip per drive.

I decided to go with a complete front end wrap with Xpel Ultimate - I could not be any happier with my decision.

I made the mistake of having the dealer order a Jaguar touch-up kit for me, without asking the price. $77!

And it doesn't cost much more than that to have a professional execute a repair that can't be seen.

For my previous cars I used Dr. Color Chip. For my F-Type R I went with Jaguar Touch Up Paint | AutomotiveTouchup which was $10 for a bottle rather than having to buy a Dr. Color Chip kit for almost $30.00. They have a really nice micro-dabbers that works great for touching up small rock chips (Touch Up Paint Accessories | 1/2 Oz Products | AutomotiveTouchup) . I also use the blending solution from my Dr. Color Chip kit if necessary.

+1 on the JLR touch-up paint kit, which has the best applicator I've ever used. I can't even find the chips I've touched up on a Polaris White car.

My JLR kit has zero instructions. Assuming 24 hours is enough time for the paint to dry before applying clearcoat? Did you make any effort to give the paint a key by scratching the chip a bit, or do you assume it's irregular enough already?

For a tiny rock chip on a white car, I don't even bother with clear coat because that's harder to blend and would likely make it more noticeable. I just use the smallest amount of paint I can get on the tip of the brush, and lightly it touch it to the spot. I do not make any attempt to remove the edges of the chips or do anything to them. All of my chips have been smaller than a BB (as in BB gun).

I assume one could do the same with the clear coat, perhaps 24 hrs later.
