Default Got pulled over going 73 in a 65 yesterday

Walked up to my car and the cop asked me did I know at what speed does my car raise the spoiler.

I said "65, officer" - in a sure tone.

He said "I saw the spoiler raise, therefore I KNOW how fast you were going and if it raises at 65, I guess you're OK, HAVE A NICE DAY."

Moral of the story...

Cops pay attention to automatic spoilers. I wonder if they'll be a day when HP gets a list of car types and their respective spoiler raise speeds to refer to as speed proof.

Maybe we can look into an override to allow us to manually lower our spoilers using our button.

Next time don't say "in a sure tone" out loud. It raises the index of suspicion.

I definitely would like to be able to cancel the spoiler with a switch of some kind..
Possibly if I get a tune from Velocity, I would ask them if they would raise the speed of deploy to around 90 mph assuming they can work some programming magic.

@90 would be great, that way if you get busted, there'd be no talking, but I still think I'd like a switch.

I can raise mine manually and it will stay raised til I manually lower it, so I can tell the offiser that I raised it myself - and show him.

But I think the US version for sone reason does not allow that. Must be a setting in software, and it should be possible to change that setting somehow - or?

US convertible (but not coupe) allows manual deployment at any speed under 60mph and it will remain raised.

That is too bad. 90mph+ makes more sense, or only manual raise.

The spoiler up is ugly imo anyway. I'd be ok with disabling it all together.

Colleague at work says to me that he thinks he passed me on the highway and I was going slow as a poke. He then says my spoiler was up. I said that means I was doing over 70 (in a much slower section of highway). I told him he was going to get a speeding ticket if he was doing that regularly on that stretch of highway. The spoiler sure is a marker. Mine doesn't retract sometimes until under 60. Not sure what the program is for retraction. Seems to vary.

If it's 50 down, then answer to cops is 50 mph as it could be as long as they don't see it deploy. They would need to have a chart for cars with active spoilers. Can't be that many.

Thats a very good point. I've always thought of spoiler deployment as a binary up/down trigger at a certain speed. but come to think about it, yes, you have to decelerate far past the 70mph to retract it. That said, it would be very difficult for a cop to use a deployed spoiler against us in court unless he states specifically that he saw the spoiler deploy. That is to say that I doubt a cop would be aware of this gap and probably would simply make the statement that our spoiler was simply in the up position. Therefore, in court, providing data of said gap as our defense would give us the wiggle room we'd need to beat the case assuming the speed limit of the infraction is within the gap range.

Jaguar engineers think of everything!

2015 vert here, manual raise and lower. I leave it up most of the time.

Over here 70mph is the maximum road speed on any public road, so I have never seen the spolier on my V8R rise on it's own.
Of course being a UK-spec car I regularly press the button to manually raise it at 65mph just to ensure the mechanism doesn't stick.

even if the policeman saw it deploy he cannot guarantee the speed of the car at deployment, it can be anywhere between 0 - 69. The spoiler can be selected to go up at any speed up to 70mph, at 70 it obviously goes up automatically if not previously selected
