Really not interested in tuning at the moment.

I live in NYS. Everything needs a catalytic converter to pass emissions.

Can you validate this? Interested.

Just weighed my OEM v-8 system and its either 49 or 50 lbs, that is about as precise as I can get with my bathroom scale. Tried it three times, same result, so it must be fairly accurate.

Thank you. That is substantially heavier than the OEM V6 muffler (active). RickyJay was kind enough to weigh his wall ornament at 35lbs. I wonder if the V8 gets some of its lower grumble from a larger box.

It is big and fairly dense - heavier than you would guess by looking at it. My assumption is they were trying to absorb/isolate sound and vibration from the cabin, and without resonators, this must be doing all the heavy lifting of noise cancellation. Installing the valvetronic system really made the exhaust sounds more audible inside with windows up or down, at least with valves open.

Our standard 200 cell downpipes will not pass emissions without ECU Tuning.

We can make the downpipes with a 200 cell Euro5 compliant catalyst brick which should pass emissions, but it adds quite a bit of cost.

Default Almost done

Finally got some time to work on the car. VAP quad touring/race exhaust installed. Waiting for the V8 valence to come back with a matte black wrap and waiting for the V8 fogs to come in.

For those watching their weight, my OEM active exhaust weighs 37.8 lbs and the VAP touring/race valvetronic weighs 38.5lbs.

A bit of variation with the OEM exhausts as RickyJay's OEM weighed in at 35lbs.

No, not the one on the rear...it’s still an S, after all. I’m certain it’ll confuse those in the know (a V8S coupe ???!). I’d like to find someone who can fabricate a badge similar to my avatar.

. Not ready for that. I’d have to black pack the whole car if I did that. I like having a splash of chrome on the car.

Well if JLR can cause confusion with naming why not the owners (with mods).

If you get a "U" badge made up for the rear you'll need another for the front!
Top tip - stick the front one on with black RTV silicone adhesive (fill up a hex hole on the grille), that's what I did to stick an R badge on the grille of my old XFR, worked a treat!

Used same wiring & sensors. Just needed to have a forum friend get 2 adapters 3D printed that would press fit into the honeycomb grille and hold the sensors.

I would think you can get a custom badge 3D printed. A scan of existing into a 3D drawing program then S changed to a U by skilled graphic/draftsperson. Printing and paint. Painting may be most difficult to get it right. Maybe there's an easier method. Would be very cool. Scanning an R badge may be better.

Default Review

Had my first shake-out drive today with the car after installation of the VAP Valvetronic V8 exhaust. OMG! In normal mode, the system sounds as sedate as the OEM exhaust until the valves automatically open at 4000 rpm when the fury of hell is released. As I mentioned elsewhere, the sound is about a half octave lower. LOUD, but not raspy.
Backing off the throttle when the valves are open releases the hammers of hell. A plethora of backfires and burbling.

In dynamic mode (valves open), getting on the throttle at low rpm allows you to hear the individual cylinders firing.

Henceforth, I will be driving with the valves closed in populated areas, not something I have found necessary in the past.

Since open valved Valvetronic is straight piped even with the V6 version, the open valve results might be similar (OEM active exhaust merely shortcuts through the muffler with valves open).

I'm loving it.

How would compare your sound now with oem V8? When I test drove the 6, one of reasons I preferred the 8 was the exhaust.

It still sounds like a V6, but a much larger V6.

Glad you finally made the switch! I'm curious how you VAP quad system compares to my OEM quad system..I would think VERY similar on our V6's since with valves open the exhausts aren't much different? By the way your describing it, it sounds like a similar setup.

There is no doubt in my mind that with valves open both our systems sound very similar. Not much to affect the sound past the resonator.
