Has anyone had the Y-pipe failure with the newer OEM version?
I plan on making my '23 F-type R my last sports car and doing some basic mods after warranty is up. I always thought the metal Y-pipe upgrade would need to be one of them. However I don't recall any posts that described a failure of the newer, non-seamed OEM pipe on the facelift cars. Has anyone had this new version fail??
The plastic Y pipe fail not in the same way as the earlier design but they do fail mainly at the bottom junction. Some say the plastic pipes are good for 50K miles. I had mine replaced at 34K and they were absolutely solid. I went for the JLR alloy pipes and water pump. JLR doesn't have an alloy rear pipe so I replaced with a brand new plastic one.
The only reason the updated plastic pipes are not failing as frequently is because they are newer not because they are more reliable.
The old plastic pipes are two pieces that are kind of sandwiched and sealed together, this means they can leak along the seam. However the most commonly is actually where the plastic becomes very brittle from touching the very hot aluminium engine block.
Obviously lifespan can vary but I find most frequently they fail around 50k miles/7 years
The best fix for this would be a set of aluminium pipes that we regularly sell and install at Wraptor
I hope this helps and makes sense

I don't trust the Chinese parts off the internet via US suppliers. I bought from wraptor Y-pipes and can vouch the quality of the pipes and rubber gaskets are top end. Also one needs to consider the Alloy water pump to oil cooler connector under the Y pipe. The rubber gaskets are much much MUCH higher quality then the US equivalent. I ordered about 3 from UK about 2 weeks ago for all my jags still needing it. I also ordered the symposer delete kit and now my Jag Techs are asking how they can acquire
