I was on the same fence and ended up deciding between the two having never seen either in person. I still haven't seen either in person, but am trying to not second-guess my decision. In the end I opted for storm grey, hoping it's like the color of my 1978 Saab 99 Turbo (anthracite).
In that picture it looks a shade lighter than Stratus and a shade darker than Ammonite. Whats up with the brake calipers? They look like the Alcons I had on my 2008 XKR.
i ended up going with the storm grey (with the ivory duo, ceramics, black + sport pack etc as per pic above)
the dealer had a paint swatch of storm and an XJ in stratus - comparing the 2 storm is more a black based grey which i prefer vs the stratus which has a blue/purple tinge
my production run will be aug/sep so won't getover to aus till end of the year
still very keen to see delivery pics of the storm in the meantime
I took the factory tour today - excellent trip and well worth it if you get the chance. I saw 30-40 painted cars and not a hint of Storm Grey! Then towards the end of the line there were five or six in various forms. Having seen the Stratus in the visitor centre I think Storm is a lighter shade (dark grey rather than grey black), although a side by side comparison would be interesting. Either way Storm looked fantastic (as did many of the other colours). Some lucky owners will be getting theirs in the next few days.
(BTW Lots of Project 7's going through)
Some initial photos on collection as promised. Not the best lighting conditions due to overcast weather. The side on shot is probably the most representative.
Does Jaguar have any kind of custom paint program (a la BMW select?) Porsche and Audi have a gray color that would probably look great on the F-Type. Called Nardo Gray on the Audi site.
I was hoping Storm Grey would be a little lighter as well, but no direct sunlight I'm sure is helping it look darker than it really is.
The sun came out today and so did the colour! Wow, it's fantastic. Superb popping. multi-coloured flecks. Some more photos which may help those currently waiting or trying to decide:
That's pretty much what I was hoping for when I closed my eyes and clicked "send" with my specs. Ammonite was my second choice, and have still seen neither in person. Target dealer delivery for mine is in 15 days. I think it's in the middle of the Atlantic now heading for Puerto Rico but it's not coming WW, so I get to speculate quite a bit.
I have Ammonite. At rest, it sort of looks like Storm does when Storm is under intense sunlight. Otherwise, Ammonite is a cool, dark gunmetal. Under really intense sunlight, Ammonite takes on a slight silvery-glimmering-bronzy hue. I ordered it sight unseen and was not disappointed on delivery. Initially, I had ordered Stratus.
