I'll say it again; The price of the helmet seldom relates to how safe it is; it's a measurement of weight, comfort and features.
You can spend weeks and months reading articles on SNELL vs. DOT vs. ECE and the testing of various helmets. Personally the most interesting development for me is the Bell MIPS (and the original manufacture Bell "borrowed" the idea from. https://www.bellhelmets.com/powersports/mips/

Of note is the difference between car and motorcycle helmets. A motorcycle helmet needs to withstand a very hard impact against pavement, plus some abrasion. A car helmet needs to withstand multiple lesser impacts. Shell and impact foam stiffness are different.
I'm far more fluent in motorcycle helmets, but generally they all meet the same standards (see Stohlen's link) and more money means more features, comfort, or quietness.
If you don't plan on catching fire, the SFI rating doesn't matter ;^)
