Looking to paint mine, as they look way out of place with the rest of the black trim. if you did what color black did you use?

Not an answer but it came in black as well, you might be able to get it online. It actually looks pretty classy

Here is a pic of what it looks like. From my car! Edit - maybe I should have cleaned it first...

Which specific parts are you looking for in black instead of hex aluminum? If you can post pics or describe them I am happy to look up the part numbers for ya (if the specific piece you need is available in black)

The post by SomethingClever here has a better shot of the dark hex. It isnt black black, more a gunmetal colour, but personally I reckon it looks very good

If you take it apart, the black portion in the center can be polished to a high shine - makes the whole area look better.

How do you remove the hex-figured surround from the piano black central unit on the console - without doing any damage? mine seems to be very firmly attached!

I've got the 6MT but expect it's the same removal technique. Use a trim removal tool at the rearmost edge and pop it up. Once the back is up enough to get your fingers under it, continue pulling the back up. It'll come free.

As a side note, I found a product that restored the piano black quite nicely - CarPro Cquartz DLUX. I was quite pleased with the initial results and it seems to be holding up well too, although the car isn't seeing the mileage it used to. That piano black looks good but scuffs too easily. I was looking to wrap it but the DLUX changed my mind.

Thanks - I was able to remove the trim as directed.

the piano black portion responds perfectly and easily to a fine polish and then carnauba wax: as new. (Note that polish and wax are opposites: the polish removes the surface, the wax protects it and adds a layer of protection. The more wax, the more protection)

I used my finest plastic polish and then the synthetic coating. I don't use carnauba much anymore because it just doesn't last as long as modern coatings.
