Not too difficult if you're friendly with the techs at your dealer. Log in with SDD ---> Diagnosis---> Electrical---->Module network fault (you need this to trip the right option)... Pick & click anything under recommendations that you can "Read"... that will reveal the "Extras" tab... go there and choose "Configure existing Powertrain Control module". DO NOT(!!) USE "Configure New PCM". It'll then do it's thing and tell you what software revision it's on and whether a new one is available. K309 is just the bulletin, it doesn't necessarily correlate to a specific software version.

If K309 has already been performed, then it will no longer show up under "Campaigns". The campaign link is just an easy way to get to the "Configure existing PCM" option anyway.

Oh and provide your tech with a large Dunkin' Donuts coffee before he starts and he might even snap your charging cover back down

Seriously though, if a charging cover is disturbed, that means the tech was at least doing the update the correct way... with a battery maintainer attached. If the voltage were to sag during an update, it could brick a module. But, I get it... attention to detail

I just got car back from the dealer, I asked about 'JTB00495 - Exhaust Noise Reduction' action and they told my PCM is already at the latest software version.

I don't think they understood/know how to apply this action. I will try providing them with the above instructions.

All I had to do was quote the JTB number and the dealer applied a newer version of code to the one I was on.

When was the last time your car received a software update? K309 was applied around March 2016 and a newer version of code was applied around August 2016 when I took it back in for the JTB. So the newer code was released sometime around Summer 2016 I believe. If your car hasn't been updated since then it's probably a fair assumption you don't have the latest and greatest.

Show them this screenshot, ask them to look up and read the TSB and confirm that they have performed the action prescribed in it.

You can also ask them to provide you with the current version of software running - they have no valid reason to refuse to give you this information.

Beyond that if they still push back escalate to JNA.

100% agree with V8FTW!
Anytime you feather touch the throttle it unleashes the fireworks audio. Do this on deceleration in any gear.

Not necessary on my car - even with very gentle acceleration in the 2 - 3k rev range results in a lot of pops and crack when I lift off (in dynamic mode)

No aggressive acceleration or needing to go above 3 - 4k and feathering etc is needed.

My car no longer even makes start up pops. It is gradually getting quieter and quieter.

However, I trust my dealer, they were very helpful in the past with my clutch issue. There isn't many F-types around here, so they probably just don't know what to do here.

The pop and crackle winner is going to have the worst gas mileage. I need to post at least five minutes of audio of the way I've been driving my car lately, but I realize from watching the grand tour that I'm probably somewhat annoying.

I've got a historic gas mileage of about 16.8 or 16.9, but in the last 3 months I've been averaging 15.4 to 15.9. I just finally climbed up back to 16.3 today after 300 highway miles for work.

But yeah.... I'm not like that really annoying Italian pop and crackle video. It's all dignified, but it does seem all the Infinities and lexus's and M3 and M4 appreciate it.

I think that's as good as you can expect around town with the MT unless the spousal unit is along for the ride. Then the fuel economy jumps by 6 mpg.

Did any of you who were told your software is already fully up to date ever get resolution on this issue? I'm going through the same process now and would appreciate any insight. Thanks.

Well, my SA told me my software was up to date as he had already applied K309. I asked him to look up and read the TSB. Only when he did this did he agree to apply the "patch" - basically as he hadn't heard of a newer K309 until he read the article.

Maybe ask them to confirm the action in the TSB has been performed?

I did ask them to look specifically at k309 and JTB000495. The dealer says this does not show up on for my MY16R, only for MY14.

Not sure how to proceed. As I mentioned in my other thread, I have engaged JNA and they have stated this is normal operation. After a lengthy argument they agreed to open another tech case, but I'm not very hopeful. I love the car but hate it in this state, and I would really don't want to have to sell it.

When did it stop making pops / crackles - Just randomly by itself? After a service visit?

Admittedly, I can't be 100% sure. I had just purchased the car this past April, it had 1100 miles and hadn't even had its first service. So first thing I did was get it into the dealer for service. They did the service and several updates, o2 update was one of them, and I can for sure say it was a problem after that service. I think I would have noticed had this been happening before, but the car was so new to me I can't be sure - but I'm generally pretty OCD about things like this, they don't take long to stick out to me.

So I took my R in to try to get the JTB00495 applied. They had no idea what it was so i gave them the info you guys have so graciously provided. Fast forward to pick up time and they declined to apply the JTB for fear it would "blow out the O2 sensors". They have to clear it with the regional service manager who is traveling so they don't know when they will get an answer.

How can they be worried when it is a valid JTB authorized by Jaguar? Ugh....I thought I left the service department run-around when I traded my M4...

Default Help

Had my new 2018 f-type S delivered more then a month ago.
I'm disappointed in the sound level that this car makes comparing to my former 340hp Ftype.
No pops, no difference in the sound level in Dynamic mode.
Checked under the car and the active exhaust is definitely mounted but I have no exhaust button mounted.
Anyone knows watch is going on.

Just back from the local dealer and compared the sound of my 2018 Ftype S agains a 2017 S that they had in second hand.
The difference is huge, no pops and cracks on the 2018 S, disappointing.
Did some testing afterwards on the highway, exhaust valves open on 4000 rpm, ithe issue is definitely software related and programmed this way on the 2018 version.
On the 400 sport t'is isn't the case according the number of you tube files.
Anyone else has this issue?

What do you mean by "exhaust valves open on 4000rpm"?, your valves stay closed until 4000rpm? The exhaust valves should be open 100% of the time when the active exhaust is engaged.
