How to get pops and crackles
It applied to all F-Type versions within specific VIN ranges. The original offending K309 update was to be applied to all VINs from K00001 thru K29970 (MY14-16).
The JTB00495 fix was to be applied to K00001 thru K22184 (MY14-15), but only if K309 had been uploaded with an SDD version less than 145.7.
Thanks to F-driver on the Jaguar-Club.DE forum for this info.

was there ever a fix for MY16?
thanks for replying, was planning on pulley and tune regardless after my warranty is up next month. Hoping that does the trick as well as how it should sound stock.
Had mine installed a couple of years ago and am still VERY happy with it. Not excessive at all, just a nice little bit extra when you want it and so easy to get the pops if you want, but also easy to coast around in stealth mode if you so choose...very happy customer here!
Okay. This car has basically made me regress back into being a boy. Except for the martinis, I'm basically just reading car magazines and playing with little models or video games or whatever.
Part of this regression is due to my full control of the pops and crackles through the manual transmission's ability to dominate the power band anyway you want. Low and breathy, high pitched and vocal and needy, and everything in between.
The reason I use the boy analogy is that I am not even like this, but there isn't an EV with an open window or an "M" BMW or Porsche that doesn't get a good blast of it when they pass. I'm utterly ridiculous but I can't help myself. Such is the spirit of this car.

Pretty much the same juvenile behavior is see from Challengers, Mustangs, and Camaros.
Personally, I would never . well, almost never ... OK, you got me - sometimes... or maybe a little more often than that.
I mean, it's not like EVERY green light

Then came my mid-life crisis, accelerated by a divorce. The carefree Harley years. A lot cheaper than hot rodding a car. Buy a couple of nice wheels, put a little into the motor, a set of good mufflers and you are ready to roar. Custom painting a tank and two fenders was under $1000. Lots of money leftover for beer! We were like a pack of wolves. People could hear us coming blocks ahead. Lots of spirited light to light riding. We would always have 4-10 riders on the weekends, heading into the country, traveling 50-100 miles to get lunch or dinner. Ears would be buzzing until I woke up in the morning. Should have worn earplugs.
Then I bought a Viper R/T. Sold the Harley after realizing I only put 500 miles during the summer. I don't regret selling the bike. Probably would have been dead by now with all of the distracted drivers using their cell phones.
After a few assorted sports cars, I am now driving around in my f-type V8. I never drive in auto. Always manual shifting giving it just the right amount of gas to get the most noise from the exhaust. Always downshifting when slowing down. I wish I had an exhaust note like this as a teen. Everyone would have been envious. With the top down, I still get the buzzing/ringing in my ears when I get home. I'll have to get earplugs.
Rice Krispies - Snap you back into the seat, Crackle and Pop. Thank you Jaguar.
Also, I'm satisfied with the sounds, but I did add clothespins and cards to the spokes for that cool BRRrrrrrt sound too. (yes, a joke)
Hello Jaguar 1611,
I also have a 2017 Jaguar F-Type R sports car. I just had my car's engine oil change at the dealership. There was no mention or talk of doing a Power train Control Module update. Why are they telling you, you need this software update patch. Why...

my check engine light is on due to 02 Sensors/Coverter. Dealer says it’s because PCM needs a software update
This doesn't sound right. 02 sensor replacement doesn't require new software upgrade patch.

that is weird....
Why, because I had the 02 sensor go bad at around 8000 miles. This caused my CEL to turn on at the car's dashboard. The dealership changed the 02 sensor, nothing else done to my car. Problem fixed.
Just took delivery of a 16 R coupe. When I tested a 15, it seemed that the exhaust constantly popped and rumbled just by barely letting off the throttle or by downshifting. I could get some fairly tame crackles today, but only once or twice did I get a long run of crackles when I let off the gas. Granted, conditions were different today...much colder (30's)...the car was mine this time, so I probably ran the car harder than when the salesman was with me. The tester was a 15 model I think.
I had it in dynamic mode with the active exhaust on and the transmission in sports mode. Any advice on how to extract those long runs of pops and rumbles? Is there a specific gear, RPM, or whatever that does it best?
Thanks and happy to be a first time Jag owner.
