Got the car back yesterday....i'm ****ed.

I had one simple request for the dealer....verify which version of K309 was applied and if rev B then leave my PCM the !@#@$#!@ ALONE...

Got the car back and I knew immediately, looked at the work order and they verified I had the B version but updated the PCM anyways and now my car sounds like ****.

Stay tuned. I'm going to get some real answers from someone that actually knows wtf changed.

I would ask the service manager if they're required to install specific software, regardless of what the customer requests. Some with quiet cars have talked to Jaguar Corporate, and my impression was that they didn't have any choice in the matter, and Jag wouldn't do anything to get the sound back.

There are numerous threads on this, sadly. I did find an 'administrative settlement', related to the XJ/XK, where Jaguar and the EPA reached an agreement to update a car's software if it came into a dealer. Kind of sounds like maybe something like that is happening again.

Applies to XJ and older XKs, but check out section 13...

So - your car already had the K309 update, and they applied it again for a second time?

I. CLIENT CALLED IN ADVISING VEHICLE EXHAUST SOUNDS VERY LOW COMPARED TO OTHERS OF SAME MODEL TECHNICAL BULLETIN #JTB00495NAS1

$0.00 X C/C REDUCED EXHAUST SOUND (PERFORMED JTB 00495 HAS1) Pass

J. CLIENT WANTS TO KNOW WHAT VERSION OF K309 HAS BEEN DONE AND IF VERSION B WAS DONE CLIENT DOES NOT WANT UPDATED $0.00 X CUSTOMER STAYS (SEE STORY) Caution
<shrugs>

I absolutely cannot sit by on this......i'm gonna cut all the exhaust off....I'm livid.

Sigh..... VAP 200 Cats + Downpipe should get it sounding better right? I'll do some reading but that will require a remap to get the CEL off correct? Should i just do the tune at the same time?

Default No update, no pops

Sorry to but here is my deal... Used to have good pops, now barely anything. Wind it up to 4K, let off, a couple pops. Blip the gas, a couple pops... Other than that, not much. No update, no nuthin. Not sure what to think, since nothing has been done on this, it just kind of happened. Perhaps because I've been driving in traffic lately rather than beating on it? Anyone else have this situation?
Taking it in for first service (5500mi) so I'm wondering if I should say something. Is asking for what campaigns are open on my car something that I can do/they would tell me?
Thanks!

Have you checked if your exhaust valves are open when they should be?

Thanks Arne! I haven't physically checked but do hear a change in sound when I hit the loud button. Will check next chance I get.

I don't think you can see the valves on the V6, only the V8. I don't think I've tried, but the pictures on page 6.23 make it appear that you can look straight in the outer V8 pipes, but on the V6 muffler, the valves don't line up with the outlet pipes.

[To clarify - I don't think you can see the valves inside the pipes. You may be able to see if the actuators on the outside of the pipes look like they're traveling all the way.]

Great Active Exhaust System Overview
Is it just me, or does the active exhaust implementation seem overly complicated ...

Yes it does - I hate the electric vacuum pump that they removed in later model years. I'd love to know why they didn't just use electric actuators on the valves. The pump is clearly audible at low speeds, and it isn't a nice sound.

Whenever someone else has been driving the car (primarily service people on check out rides), the sizzle goes away. Takes about an a half hour of driving it like a wild man for the Rice Krispie effect to return.

Thanks as always, U. NOT my daily driver but been driving it in the rain, because my old car has bald tires and I don't want to put any more $ into it. So that may be a contributing factor... Anyone want to buy a 99 C43 with 230K that "needs work??"

I have the V6 XE, and this discussion is really intriguing. Since removing the two center resonators on my car, I've been able to get wild amounts of crackles and pops just like the F-type - on the stock ECU tune! If I rev up to 5k and coast down while repeatedly feathering the throttle, it just lights up! What's really interesting is that it felt like it took about a week for the ECU to "wake up" and start making those sounds, but now it does it all the time.

I'm wondering - have any of you noticed that when the engine is pretty warm (say after doing 5 or so miles of bumper-to-bumper traffic or driving really hard) your crackles and pops are severely diminished? Similarly, the crackles and pops are pretty insane when the car is cold and seem to calm down after the first couple of miles. They still happen on the warm engine, but you have to work harder at it.

Cold engine - loud machine gun crackles all the time, even without feathering throttle
Warmed up but not driven hard - loud machine gun crackles when you feather the throttle on coast down between 5k and 3k
Driven hard - crackles with diminished volume, occasional loud crackles if you work at it
Single "gunshot" pop when letting off at redline - all engine temps

2014 V8S

Cold engine - loud machine gun crackles all the time, even without feathering throttle
Warmed up but not driven hard - loud machine gun crackles all the time, even without feathering throttle
Driven hard - loud machine gun crackles all the time, even without feathering throttle

Basically, I get loud machine gun crackles. All the time.

"Thank dawg for heated the steering wheel".
Massive dyslexia showing there, it must have been really cold!

Here's one we did on an FPace. These don't make any pops & crackles stock, but all those guys & gals want the 'FType' sound so we induced them.
