Look on the positive side . . . with a large percentage of the clueless drivers no longer bashing into things, the roads could be a lot more enjoyable for those of us doing the driving ourselves in our vintage F-Types.Originally Posted by Unhingd

I plan to drive mine into the ground - figuratively, not literally.

Until you find something you like better?
Until the wife makes you get rid of it for something more practical?
Never?
The new Z06 is really tempting these days, just wish they would sort out the overheating issues. The 12c's are starting to tempt me as well. The new NSX looks to be let down, the R8 isn't looking much different than the old R8. Maybe I'll just keep the F for a few years...Good time to be a car guy.

The Lease has another 18 months to run, so I can reasonably expect the Salesman to start calling in about 6 months offering a new Lease as a straight swap, or possibly with an upgrade.Originally Posted by TheStig

Alternatively, based on the current used prices, there should be plenty of equity left at the end of the Lease to act as a deposit.
Or I could just keep it. The last built to order car I bought I expected to keep for 3 years but in the end kept it for over 9. I only sold it to make space for the f-type.

You have seemed to have enjoyed it up until now. Did the speeding ticket have anything to do with it?

The ticket really took the wind out of my sails so to speak and since this occurred on the first day of the year and I'm still waiting to hear from the courts...so the black cloud hovers overhead as I patiently wait by the mailbox each day, lol.
As far as being a cop magnet, yes it sure seems that way to me. My wife and I have been lit up twice so far, as in every flashing light possible and that has unsettled some nerves...if you catch my drift.
I come from a world of high performance muscle cars and have never been profiled like I am in this car...so much so, especially in my town...that I have to sneak on back streets just to get to and from my home...and that's no fun.
Wifey and I were discussing this yesterday over lunch and I'm sure things will feel better once I get the ticket resolved and behind me. It's been 12+ years since my last ticket and I keep beating myself up over it...I know...pointless.
I've driven the car exactly one time since then and am still stuck on 4900 miles. I hope to get back in it at some point because I sure still love the way it looks and feels.
My wife's the one who is paying for this car and she wants me to enjoy it rather than have it just sit in the garage...and I have to agree with her there.

My lease is up in 26 months or so. At that point depending on life circumstances I may lease an XF depending on the used prices on the following:
Ferrari California/599
McLaren MP4-12C
AM V12V S/Rapide
Ferrari California/599
McLaren MP4-12C
AM V12V S/Rapide
I'm in a built to spec 2013 XF right now and 2.5 years off the assembly line the thing rattles like a tackle box. I'm glad that similar concerns don't seem to be prevalent with the F Type otherwise I never would have ordered one. Perhaps the quality of the XF has ratcheted up in the past couple of model years, but tread carefully.

i normally switch cars every 2-3 years, but i plan to buy the ftype once the lease is up assuming there are no issues with it at the time. however, plans may change depending on what's out there at the time.

Buick, I think you are being too hard on yourself.
The ticket was unfortunate, but it happened and there isn't too much you can do about it. I'm not sure what the laws are like in CA, but I would try to plea it down if possible. That might soften the blow.
In the meantime, you should be getting out there and enjoying your car. If I lived in the California sunshine like you do, I'd be driving my car every day! I envy you warm weather guys.
While I could drive mine in the winter, I find the winter combination of idiots who can't drive in inclement weather, salt, potholes, crumbling roads, and hail storm of gravel chips a bit discouraging and somewhat of a high risk.

I'm thinking my 2015 F Type R will be my last sports car, meaning my estate will be selling it if one of my kids (or grandkids) doesn't want it when I'm gone.

She's paid for and not my daily driver. Put away for the winter after hitting 3k miles in December just as it was broken in. Love it.
