Default Illuminated "gear selected" on shift knob?

Granted, I probably have a few pages to read in the manual, but I've not experienced this feature yet.

If you are looking down at the Shift Lever while in Sport Mode, then you are not adequately deploying the resources afforded by Sport Mode...

Well, the Jag how-to video spends a few minutes telling us about it. And I'm not sure it really exists.

I specifically attempted to invoke this feature this evening by switching to Dynamic, engaging Sport mode, then deploying paddles to shift through the gears for several sequences, and no such illuminated indicator on the Shift lever.
Now one thing I did not try - silly me - is using the Shift Lever itself to shift gears. Will try that tomorrow on my way out.

That won't work either.

Have you asked your dealer? It's possible that this feature was removed from production...

The dealer probably won't know. We know these cars better than they do. Every time I've gone into the dealer, I've explained something they were unaware of. All thanks to contributions from our forum members.

That's why this forum is indispensable. I would not own a new Jaguar or any car this complicated without the benefit of enthusiast support. Fortunately there are a lot of smart people on here who are interested enough to learn the ins and outs of these cars.

That's the reason I've not asked the dealer. And I don't want them tearing into my new car to "locate a fault" that may very well affect every F-Type in existence.

So, despite this feature being in the owner how-to video (2015) and the manual (2016) it doesn't work on my 2016 R.

Does it work for anyone?

I am going to place my bet on "no". It doesn't seem all that useful even if it did work. Tiny numbers.

Mine works exactly as shown in the "how to" video. What illuminates is a small rectangle adjacent to the transmission gears, "P, R, N, D," which indicated the gear selected, but not the alphas themselves. They glow orange. There is also one when you move to Sport Mode. In bright sunlight they may not be immediately obvious, especially in the convertible. Mine is a 2016 Base which I picked up just 2 weeks ago.

I really think what the OP meant was the numeric value displayed on the top left of the shift knob, as in the picture he attached.

Mine has little "lights" that illuminate to tell me when I am in P, D, or R...

Yup. Mine too. But no little number on the shift lever itself.

If y'all look at the shift knob, maybe with a flashlight, can you see the segmented display that is supposed to show the number?

Just curious if the hardware was even implemented.

Never seen it, but also never looked. Won't lose any sleep over it if it isn't there
